Edit: I should have mentioned I was asking about TIMBER framed houses, not steel frame or double brick. My wife visited our site yesterday to find a bit of progress happening, but to her surprise she fond they were making the frame of our house on site from scratch. It doesn't really bother us but we did think it was odd to find that the builder isn't using a pre fabricated frame as it would be quicker and hopefully a little more accurate to have them built off site and trucked in. Do you have pre fab frames or were they made on site? As a side note our builder is not a volume builder. He does around 30-40 homes per year. Re: POLL-House frames: pre fab or on site? 2May 19, 2011 10:29 am More accurate... yes and no. When they build on site they can adjust to any deviations in the slab, overhang etc. Six of one, half a dozen of the other really. We built with PD and ours was on site.... of the houses built around us, Met'con and DFH have built on site. Simonds and GJ Gardner have been prefab. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: POLL-House frames: pre fab or on site? 3May 20, 2011 7:47 am Frames were built on site, roof trusses were prefabs. If you are a volume builder and build many houses of the same design then prefab will be better. In terms of quality there is more pride in a stick build. That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 17828 If this is a custom build then I would expect the builder to set out the door frame closer to the wall to avoid the gap between architrave and the wall and or specify… 9 8290 |
