Re: Building the McLaren by Dechellis 465May 10, 2011 2:44 pm Hi Kiwi, the suspense is killing me too!! It's brown or "Straight Grain Wenge" to those in the know - there's a pic of the display kitchen on page 2 For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Building the McLaren by Dechellis 466May 10, 2011 2:53 pm Mclaren I am going to try downloading some pictures and colour selections .. this is the kitchen in the display home which we haven't changed too much apart from changing to a 900mm cooktop with cast iron trivents and 900mm rangehood, larger handles on the cupboards, changed the mixer and added some pot drawers and space for the microwave. The cupboards are Straight Grain Wenge and the benchtop is Essastone New Crystal Salt (20mm thick). We are having the same floor tiles, paint colour is Solver Parchment throughout the house and planning to have a shutter on the kitchen window. We are also having the linear slots for the aircon as they look kool! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ and so it is! I like it without the handles above, like you have done it I have seen wenge here (in a sample) very nice. I chose burnished wood. dark like yours. the kitchen would be one of the most exciting times like was said above, along with gyb Re: Building the McLaren by Dechellis 467May 10, 2011 2:57 pm Thanks for that Kiwi - I agree it will look much cleaner without those handles!! Re: Building the McLaren by Dechellis 468May 10, 2011 3:10 pm Thanks for refreshing our memories kiwi. . .love it & it will look great with a plantation shutter on the window. It's going to look amazing. So you'll be inviting us all over for a wine to check it all out then Mclaren? Hehe kidding! I am having trouble keeping the dark laminate clean & above the rangehood, the laminate shows EVERY little oil splatter (we use hardly any oil when cooking) an it goes ALLLLLL the way up to the top of the cupboard. *sigh* downfall of dark. Wenge should be much different to out chocolate pear though. Re: Building the McLaren by Dechellis 470May 10, 2011 3:27 pm Tam - anytime!! Yes we were really stressing when picking the laminate as we have had laminate before that was a beggar to keep clean - it showed everything and we tried various things so that streaks didn't show. In the end we found that a few drops of eucalyptus oil in warm water wiped over the marks then wiped again with a dry cloth did the trick. I was looking at the sample again the other day and it is "Velour" and fingerprints don't seem to show up but we'll see!! You sound like a messy cook For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Building the McLaren by Dechellis 471May 10, 2011 3:35 pm Hahaha.. Honestly, so not a messy cook. I don't understand how we get the little greasy oil dots all the way up to the ceiling. I am a nazi with the kids and DH "are you guys serious? I just cleaned these cupboards and there are finger prints everywhere. I'm never cleaning these again". Then I go off and clean them arghhh. Crazy nazi mum Re: Building the McLaren by Dechellis 472May 10, 2011 3:36 pm Hey Tam, go and get yourself a spray bottle, put in some white vinegar and water and use that to wipe your cupboards! I also find that it cleans my stainless steel cook top and dishwasher perfectly without leaving streaks!! ------------------------------------------------------ Handover: 14 December 2010 Current: Putting in plants! I use it for all my cleaning, it is fantastic and doesn't leave streaks (or that icky filmy residue that I'm sure manufacturers put in there to attract dirt to make you buy more products)....Floors, cupboards, benchtop, stainless steel, mirrors, glass, does the lot.....and its 99c for 2 litres ! Re: Building the McLaren by Dechellis 474May 10, 2011 4:29 pm I'm sold!! DH uses metho in water for cleaning the floors esp tiles. Building the McLaren by Dechellis 475May 10, 2011 4:39 pm I need to get me a spray bottle. I use vinegar for everything I am suprised i haven't used it for the cupboards yet. Re: Building the McLaren by Dechellis 476May 10, 2011 4:58 pm it doesnt matter that the cupboards are dark, in our old house we had a light beech wood colour and we had the same oily marks above our rangehood. So that's why I can't seem to find a brand of spray'n'wipe that doesn't leave my bench feeling sticky afterward! might try the vinegar/water. I tried using it on my floor tiles in my last home but hated the smell. I do use it as fabric softener though! McLaren, your kitchen is going to look amazing! I really like that window, I had a brief dumb moment of thinking "oh I could have one of those" & then remembered I have a laundry on that wall Building our custom design "Dream Home" Follow my Build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=46820 Contract Signed - 28/04/11 Siteworks Commenced - 20/06/11 Re: Building the McLaren by Dechellis 478May 10, 2011 8:42 pm Quote: I think it looks balanced though so looking forward to seeing it in the flesh now!! Balanced - that was the word I was looking for Another great cleaning product is the Chux Magic Eraser, only needs water and takes off a multitude of dirty marks including marks on walls (although I would do a patch test first in case the paint comes off). Works well on grease too. I buy the blocks and cut off small pieces at a time depending on how much cleaning I need to do, with a sharp knife. It can be rinsed and reused but does wear out quite quickly. https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Re: Building the McLaren by Dechellis 479May 10, 2011 10:08 pm WOW, that will be awesome!
