Gren In my opinion, yes it was worth it. I had 3 inspections done & I would do it again if I build another house. __________________________________________ Built Camberwell 29 with PD - Hand Over was on 22/12/10 http://ssazcamberwell29.blogspot.com/ Re: Porter Davis homes 1664Apr 29, 2011 8:39 am Gren Hi and thanks for the info provided, They seem a little pricey, is it really worth getting the checks done by an independant inspector? Gren We did not arrange this to be done, and we are not very satisfied with the quality of build. I'd highly recommend getting independent inspections done. Re: Porter Davis homes 1665Apr 29, 2011 10:05 am andiro Hi, we are building with Porter Davis and close to completion. But the whole construction process has been a complete nightmare. I would never chose PD again. Their display homes look very nice and the sales guys are usually quite fit, but when it comes to construction the nightmares started. They don't provide updates about the progress, are usually very quick with the invoices in the beginning but slow down to almost complete still stand in the end, when over weeks nothing happens. But worst is really that there is absolute no communications, we tried to call the admin girl and the construction supervisor but. They mostly don't answer the phone and only on very special lucky days return calls. They said that the painter finished, but when we checked many doors were not painted and still marks throughout the house. Very poor, I would definately not go with PD again. But good luck! Hi andiro, I'm very sorry to hear about your issues with your PD build. Did you bring this to the attention of your CSA or SS at the time? I would suggest submitting your issues about the painting in writing to your Site Supervisor so that they are aware of your frustrations and can offer you some advice. Alternatively, if you'd like to send me your details including your full name, contact number, lot address and name of your CSA or SS I can put you in contact with someone from the PD office to discuss these issues with you. We are always looking for ways to improve our service to our customers and appreciate your feedback. Kind Regards, Jess. Porter Davis Homes Questions? I have just signed contracts and have a start date of sometime in July from the developer (Mirvac). I just wanted to ask how much New Home Inspections charge for thier services? Thanks, Gren Hi Gren, It's good to see you on the forum & hear that you've signed your contracts and getting ready to begin your build. Hopefully your start date with keep on track for July and you can begin building asap In terms of an Independent Inspector, it's really up to you and what you think is necessary. Many clients use them for their own piece of mind, maybe just call up a few, see what they offer & make up your mind from there. Goodluck, keep us posted with your progress. Cheers, Jess. Please don't tell me you don't know and I will only find out at tender. Re: Porter Davis homes 1668Apr 29, 2011 7:43 pm Hi Wizzy, The Brooklyn is a prestige isn't it? We are building from the prestige range also and cat2 carpets were a standard option for prestige customers so it should be $0 extra! That is how it was for us unless it has been changed. Hi Wizzy, Team PD presence in this forum is just as a mediator to assist in rebuilding any communciation breakdown between PD and their clients. Your sales consultant is the one to speak to regarding any pricing etc as that is their primary role. If it helps, my other half and i sourced pricing through carpet c0urt (who is the carpet supplier for PD). If you go to the one in Chadstone they have a huge range. Just speak to the person there regarding the impressions range (which is cat 2) and they should be able to assist in approximate costs. I stress the approximate as you need to take into account PDs addition of labour and their buying power. At least that would give you a guide to go on. Hope that helps! Not sure how it went. I got stressed at bathroom selection and we have elected to have the floor tile going up the wall. But I'm not so sure on it now. I sort of agreed just because I was stressed. TBH I wasn't that impressed with what they had on offer. Everything seemed to be very mono-chromatic. We've chosen a light porceline tile, not white, sort of Beige i guess. this will be right through the house and in the ensuite a grey-black on the floor and walls with a glass rice paper feature tile running horizontally. We also got into Hopetoun for a look and in terms of carpets I'm not impressed either. There were a couple I'd settle for, but nothing stood out. Most of the carpets had no pattern or texture to them and none at all had a fleck or colour variation. So yeah, a little disappointed in the range to choose from but I'm not sure there's anything much to do about it. On the matter of Hopetoun - did anyone select Laminex crystal gloss for the kitchen? Do you recall what it added to your budget? I was told that vinyl wrap can add $5000 to the cost, so that easy, we won't bother looking there. So while we are in thinking mode before our appt at Hopetoun if they crystalgloss is in the same order I won't bother thinking about it either. On the plus side I met a person at our estate who has just moved into her PD home and she is very happy and said her SS was great. That was nice to hear. Hi, when we had our colour selection we were quoted prices by the sales rep, when we got the variaitons the pricing was all over the place and of course we were over charged, we didnt sign off on them and went back to the sales rep who got involved,,,, we then got the lower price for the variations, an example was the underlay upgrade we were charged by PD $1500, once we discussed this with the sales rep it came back down to $450.00 - Site cut: 2 June 2010 Slab Poured: 2 Oct 2010 Frame Stage: 12 Oct 2010 Lock up: Dec 2010 Fixing Stage: March 2011 http://karasdreamhome.blogspot.com/ Re: Porter Davis homes 1674May 01, 2011 7:26 pm I am new here and don't know where to start looking for answer. PLEASE HELP Hi Manchester, You will get a CSA once you sign off on some basics with your PD Sales Consultant. The $1000 you paid locks in any eligible promotion and build cost. Basically, the sales consultant should walk you through your house, define what is standard and note anything additional you want included. They'll also site your chosen house on your block to make sure it fits and meets any estate covenants for things like minimum setbacks and proximity to easements. Once this is done, you will sign off on the quote (just a formality - not locking anything in), your facade, the siting, any promotion you may be eligible for, they then create you as a 'real' customer in their system and send your details off to Head Office where they then assign you a CSA. We were told this would take about 2 weeks, but took nearly three for us (maybe if you tell them you are in a hurry, they can speed it up). The CSA will then make contact, schedule a soil test and book in your tender, colours, tiles, electrical and contract appointments. While you are waiting for all this to happen, best to try and make sure your plans are right and start to formulate what you want your colour scheme, electrical/lighting plan and options to look like, to avoid making rushed decisions at the respective appointments. This basically means a few visits to PD display homes (If you see something you like in a display home, make a note and Hopetoun can provide the details), Hopetoun and National Tiles. To give you an idea of our timescale - we signed our quotes on 29/1, Tender was 1/3, Tiles was 17/3, Colours & Elec was 18/3, and Contract was 25/3. Good Luck! PLEASE HELP Hi Manchester I, It's good to see you on the forum. I see you've been busy getting things organised in the initial stages of building. You're CSA is your main contact to help guide you through the process of your build. Rups has provided you with some great feedback and is right in saying that your CSA should be in contact with you shortly to guide you through the process & provide you with estimates of your timeframes. However, if you don't hear from your CSA shortly in the following week, feel free to contact the Porter Davis office, they'll also be able to help you out. Alternatively, you can send me your name, contact number and lot address & I'll look into this for you. Let us know how you go. Cheers, Jess. Porter Davis Homes Questions? Hey Lastone, Congrats on progressing through with colours! It is a stressful thing to go through because you want to be certain that you have the right look and all. If it helps you any, don't worry about the floor tile going on the wall too...we did that in all our ensuites upstairs (Except the master ensuite) with just a differing feature stripe on the wall. It will look fine, i'm sure. Re: the carpet choices, i too didn't think much of the choice at hopetoun and we went to the carpet court in chadstone to have a look and for some reason it seemed there was more to choose from but i could be wrong and it could just be that some of the samples were moved or looked differently in the showroom. Maybe have a look out at the carpet court in chaddy if you can get out there.
