Good luck. Let us know when you get handover. Perry Re: Five minutes alone with them...that's all I want 5Apr 06, 2007 3:14 pm You've reported it to the police of course ? If the damage extends to thousands of dollars then it becomes a more serious crime. I imagine the windows must be full of prints.... When I lived in Sydney I was burgled maybe six times (three different houses). Police were never interested at all. Didn't even ask a single question. My sister (who lives in London) said that when she was burgled the police turned up and "dusted for prints" ! Why so different I wonder ? Why so different I wonder ? Overworked is the answer - everything has a priority, and burglaries are just not as high a priority. Sad - but true. Re: Five minutes alone with them...that's all I want 13Apr 10, 2007 1:30 pm That's bad. I can understand how angry you are Epiphany.
Police (NSW) is sooo crap. Once my car was stolen.. they just don't care. These sort of crimes are not important to them. What they don't understand is that, these small criminals would grow day by day and commit serious crime down the track unless they are punished. Then again, our legal system way too easy. Even if Police do all the hard work then the court will lease the criminals with a small smack at the back. I can understand how the Police would feel when their hard work goes wasted. Re: Five minutes alone with them...that's all I want 14Apr 10, 2007 2:15 pm This is getting a bit OT, but...
When my car was stolen I got a call about a week later from the Police. They told me to get to it "as fast as you can" because it had been hotwired and was parked in a particularly bad area. They said if I didn;t get down there in an hour or two it would probably be gone again. So, despite being almost too sick to walk I jumped in a taxi and got down there. But the worst was to come: While it was stolen the thieves had managed to get a council parking ticket and I was being threatened with escalating fines if I didn't pay. I told them it was stolen at the time so they demanded to see the Police report (fair enough). I go to the Police but they say "very sorry but we can't find it anymore". So I end up paying. Otherwise it would have been more time wasted in court etc etc. So glad I'm not in NSW anymore.... We are building in an estate just out of a questionable area. Its out of view from main roads and there is only 1 neighbour at present. Hope everything gets sorted. Jaded opinions are usually the loudest Re: Five minutes alone with them...that's all I want 16Apr 11, 2007 8:43 am epiphany Why does all the bad stuff happen right before handover??! I'm wondering wether these people (or kids) who are doing these horrible things are targeting specific homes that are perhaps out of sight from other neighbours? When I drive around my estate I have seen a couple of homes vandalised. And these are two homes that stand alone on the street with no other neighbours nearby. They are also on the edge of the estate where the front of the house faces away from the estate and overlooking, well, nothing. Just empty land. There are other homes being built (either next to each other or very close to each other) and I haven't seen them vandalised at all. epiphany, are you the only one on your street? If not, are there others in your estate that have the same problem? Last weekend we saw this young guy dirt biking through the estate. Zooming around the lots that were yet to be sold. Bf wasn't too happy. He looked innocent enough but the Bf was thinking that he better not be trying to bust into our house after we leave. [sneakersss] Re: Five minutes alone with them...that's all I want 17Apr 11, 2007 10:06 am As I child I grew up in an estate area with lots of houses being built. Myself & friends always used play in the houses - favourite was running across the exposed floor beams (this in days when houses were built on pillar foundations rather than slabs).
It was all great fun. But we never vandalised anything or stole from the sites. In fact I don't think it ever even entered our minds to do so. All of which is to say that not every kid you see lurking about is bent on evil deeds. It's just 'the local environment' to explore. Of course it's hard for me to even live by that since I tend to be very suspicious in my old age Re: Five minutes alone with them...that's all I want 18Apr 11, 2007 11:16 am I agree with Cabinfever. Half built homes made an excellent playing ground
But.... at that time we were known to the street so it was fine as long as we didn't hurt ourselves. Just don't take your gun out when you see an innocent palyful kid in that area Re: Five minutes alone with them...that's all I want 19Apr 11, 2007 2:14 pm YSSIM epiphany, are you the only one on your street? If not, are there others in your estate that have the same problem? The estate is brand new & there are only 1 or 2 houses with occupants in them (one of which is behind us but they didn't hear anything). We have a house next door but it's also currently being built. The house looks out over a lake & parkland & it's always really busy in the evenings with people going for walks & mums taking their kids to the playground further down the road. But at night, there's virtually no one there, so it'd be very easy for someone to steal something. But most of the houses don't seem to have had much damage (except for the one round the corner that had $10k of damage done in one night) - it's as if our house is being targetted (either someone *really* doesn't like us or we have exceptionally good taste & someone really covets our belongings!). Sigh. Having said that, some people are pretty brazen. Our neighbours-to-be said they had a pallet of bricks stolen within an hour...the tradies (or someone...can't remember who) left at a particular time, they (the neighbours) returned an hour later & the bricks were gone! In broad daylight! She's really annoyed because that was going to be their BBQ. Re: Five minutes alone with them...that's all I want 20Apr 12, 2007 1:20 pm We had our walkthrough today.
Essentially, the damage is so extensive that they're now weighing up whether it's cheaper to just reglaze or to actually replace all the windows (& it sounds like replacing all the windows is going to be cheaper!). The front windows will take a while to be done because they're double glazed & they might have to wait till after we've moved in. But the windows at the back (which are a combo of normal glass & laminated saftey glass) should be done next week...so we will only be delayed by a day or two. Which isn't too bad (the carpet & wooden floors can all go in on time as they won't interefere witht he windows...we just might need to change the actual moving-in date). Tha garage door panel is going to take 4 weeks to get replaced. At least our problems are easy to repair. Next door thought they'd remained unscathed. Turns out they'd got a visit as well - someone has poured concrete down all their sewer pipes (drains, toilets, etc). Which is going to be very costly & time-consuming to repair. And a house down the road got hit as well - the culprits shimmied up the drainpipes & got in through an upstairs window...then proceeded to splatter concrete all over their walls. Sorry! I'm new to this forum and have made a mistake in my posting! I'm looking for a structural solution to a stand alone wooden pickets fence with no structural rail… 1 3299 I would be wary. Is you site demilished but nothing else done? Sounds like liquidity problems to me. Our builder did the same. Got hundreds of thousands of dollars of… 2 15413 Sounds like rubbish to me. Ask for the contamination report which I doubt they have. If it's part of a normal subdivision it would have had a contamination report done… 9 5661 |
