I called optus as I have my mobile and internet already with them. I got put on a cap home phone plan for $35 and with that I get a little black box that plugs into a power socket (I think) and it runs off the wires above not under and it runs on the 2G network so works everywhere. It's a wireless system. The best thing no connection fee, no call out fee. It's getting posted to me and all I have to do is call and activate when we move in. We already have our home phone number.....very happy!!! No telstra, no fees and almost moving in!!! I hope this helps. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=40976 Aug 26/10 -Land settle Oct 1-Signed UE Nov 4 -Site Cut 22 -Slab 26 -Frame Dec 17 -Lock Up Feb 1/11 -Fixing Mar 31+Apr 14 -PCI cancelled Re: New Home telephone connection..is it only Telstra ? 13Mar 26, 2011 9:08 pm Pugs Phillshz Basically yes. Telstra are the provider enabled to make the connection, they own the main infrastructure and basically hold you(other telco`s too) to ransom. If you want a phone line connected to your house then telstra is the only way,and they will quietly slip $300 from your back pocket for 10mins work(provided your elec already dug the trench and laid the cable for you) It is alot longer then 10mins of work.... most "elecs" don't touch the External Lead In. Hmmm, well it might be technically more than 10mins but it was quick. The elec dug the trench and laid the cable at rough in. If it wasn`t telstra acting on their own (before i had even contacted them) then i assume the elec came back later after the rough in and installed the little light grey plastic lockable telsta box thats now under my meter box. I was told telstra would be out to complete the connection between 8-12. A phone call from the telstra tech(from my own new ph no) at 9am tells me he didn`t do much at all and just basically connected the exposed line protruding from the hole in the gyprock wall inside the house to the socket he installed on the wall(it wasn`t there at 5:30pm on the day before). Sounds like a quick & easy 3 gorrillas if you ask me. True the whole job from start to finish may have been more than 10 mins, perhaps each section needed 15 or so mins. It`s still a quick $300 and given the reoccuring sentiment members in this thread have towards the big T,it`s no wonder we don`t enjoy being bent over by them due to their monopoly, they could charge 3k and we would still have to pay it. 3 50268 Hi all I'm currently building a duplex in Sydney and we need to do a new water connection to the second unit.
