Browse Forums Building A New House Re: The most frustrating and annoying things about building? 25Mar 22, 2011 9:02 pm I agree with the others - lack of communication and waiting are the most frustrating. Also, the hidden charges they spring on you once you've signed up and reach the selections stage. They all add up! Re: The most frustrating and annoying things about building? 26Mar 24, 2011 3:05 am Wow, I am amazed at the bad service it seems is out there! I work at a larger Perth builder, and we have very specific rules - calls must be returned the same day, or if we are in meetings it must be the next day at latest. All clients in construction get a phone call or email every 2 weeks on the dot letting them know what has just been happening on their job, and what is due to happen next. Also any queries that need to be asked of the SS are to be done in the same day and admin staff get straight back to the client, or the SS sometimes calls the client back directly if it's easier. We even do inspections from 7am to allow for clients to meet out on site before work. While I know it's frustrating for clients, I can understand builders not allowing direct contact with the SS - that's why they have the admin staff. From the builders perspective, there can easily be 30 jobs per supervisor (even more at some companies), and if each person called their SS once a day or every 2nd day, they wouldn't get any work done. Instead the admin staff filter those calls, and make one BIG call to the SS to sort everything out without hassling him all day. Also as usual it's that small portion of the population that spoils it for everyone else, because they want to call their SS about every little thing that instead the office staff could help them with. Hopefully the bad experiences don't give the rest of us a bad rep Re: The most frustrating and annoying things about building? 27Mar 24, 2011 11:02 am Mrs P mapcalla Mrs P I feel very lucky to have picked our builder. I've made 30k+ in variations at no charge, I use their suppliers for quotes so get their price and they haven't put a mark up on anything. My ss emails me every Friday and is happy for me to call him whenever I want and go on site whenever I want. The admin ladies are wonderful. I'm waiting for things to go bad! My goodness Mrs P... who are you building with! A small private builder here in Brisbane, we almost went with one of the major ones I am glad we didn't now Re: The most frustrating and annoying things about building? 28Mar 24, 2011 12:37 pm Thanks for that Mrs P, I'm try to suss out the post reply, I'll work it out, I hope. What is the name of your wonderful builder may I ask? I live in Bris. I might have done some work for them.
Sarah Re: The most frustrating and annoying things about building? 29Mar 24, 2011 1:23 pm The waiting, the money, the tradesman, the dirt, the time, the effort, the organisation skills required, the never ending 'discussions' with DH about what we would like to chose, the arguments after the selections, the phone calls, the wondering if it is all worth it. Did I mention the money? And I am not even at slab stage yet. Re: The most frustrating and annoying things about building? 33Mar 25, 2011 8:36 pm Tradesmen that think its ok to leave rubbish and food scraps laying around inside AND outside when ther is a bin 20 steps away. And tradesmen that wont pick up any of their left over building material and think its ok because its on acreage out of town and no one will see. Umm HELLO deckhead I will see it and I will have to clean it up so it doesn't fly all over the place and end up in the middle of my paddock like all the excess wrap and tin that is now scattered around my acreage and I will have to find before I put livestock in there. OK Rant over resume normal transmisssion. Cheers Janet Re: The most frustrating and annoying things about building? 34Apr 08, 2011 6:43 pm I know! I forgot about the trades leaving their food scraps on the ground! It's a bit gross. Can't complain about emails, ours are answered straight away and anything that has needed to be looked at has been done within 24hrs. Our first build we went with a small family builder, Italians, they did the best job so fussy and this time we have gone with Bentley and so far things have been great. The waiting is the killer, even though things are being done very quickly, I am the most impatient person on earth, a Scorpian, so that explains it all.
