Like I said, after building a 200mm platform the owner conceded that he wished he'd made it higher, and I 100% agreed with his feelings on the subject. Before committing to that height perhaps you should try to get a feeling for whether or not you will have the same issue from the back row (front seats not low enough to get them completely away from blocking bits of the bottom of the image...)? Test it somehow or visit a room with a similar setup... Re: Raised rear platform in Theatre Room 9Mar 16, 2011 12:06 pm the reason I am opting for a 300mm platform is that when you are at the movies, there is nothing worse than having someone sitting in front of you and blocking your line of sight, so i'd rather be safe and set the platform at a height that will ensure that my view would not be blocked. I don't really have any height restrictions as my ceilings are 2550mm high (or 2250mm above the platform height), and my projector will hang down 400mm, leaving me 1850mm clearance, and i'm only 6ft tall. Even if someone who's 6'6" uses the rear seat, it will only be the section between the 2 rear seats that will be effected by the placement of the projector, so no real issue. Re: Raised rear platform in Theatre Room 10Mar 16, 2011 7:06 pm The only issue I have with a 300 mm high platform is that it's quite a step up. Would 250 mm be a happy medium between step up and clearing the head in front of you? On second thoughts, the distance between the eyes and the top of a head is only about 150 mm. But then this would only be OK if the bottom of the screen was at eye level. Now I need to know how much below eye level a typical screen is! Maybe it's better to have everything at one level and get the tall people to sit in the back row! Steps need to be no higher than 190mm maximum. If you go with 250 (and this is a good height) I would have a step in front. Re: Raised rear platform in Theatre Room 12Mar 22, 2011 6:49 pm Hi there everyone. A enthusiast in Home Theatre design and construction from AVSforum.com in the USA came up with the following calculator for working out riser height. There are a number of variables which you should also consider, such as screen height, speaker placement etc. However, the calculator is a pretty good starting point. Bear in mind that it's in imperial and not metric. From memory, 1 inch is 2.54cm, so that should be a ready conversion. Here's the link.... http://www.theater-calc.com/ Best of luck Greg Re: Raised rear platform in Theatre Room 13Mar 22, 2011 11:17 pm Great find Greg. I got 8", which is 200 mm, which coincidently is what I originally though was a good height! If you got a taller person (like above 5'10") you were really struggling. If I did it over I would definately go 300mm with a step.
