Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Mar 12, 2011 2:45 pm Hi, Im looking at installing a Hung Toilet as the previous home owners decided to pour cement down the pipe to fill it in We thought a hung toilet would be better from the flooring point of view Does a hung toilet have a sistern? the ones on ebay dont seem to have one. Is it hard to install one? Any ideas or comments welcome, Thanks Re: Hung Toilet installation 4Mar 12, 2011 9:42 pm All toilets have cisterns (unless you want some primitive dunny arrangement). Wall-hung toilets have concealed cisterns - as kyton said, they're inside the wall. http://www.bathroomwarehouse.com.au/toilets/images/in-wall-toilet-suites/specs/unica-concealed-cistern-specs.pdf I don't understand what you mean about the previous owners pouring cement down the pipe? Do you mean the waste or the water inlet? Is there an existing toilet there? I'm confused.... Re: Hung Toilet installation 5Mar 12, 2011 9:47 pm A hung toilet is a pain in the rear to install. The cistern is usually hidden in the stud wall or if it is a retrofit, you build a stud wall for it. They are also very expensive to buy and to install. We were going to have them and when I worked out it would cost about 3k for each one I changed my mind. Geberit are the european leaders and have just brought one out in Australia that can be retrofitted as it comes with its own little stud wall. I am not sure where you are but if you are in perth there are a couple of guys who specialise in this sort of system. Hope this helps Re: Hung Toilet installation 6Mar 12, 2011 10:00 pm I'm installing one in the house extension that I'm building. As others have already noted, the cistern is located inside the wall. It basically consists of a galvanized steel frame which is bolted to the floor, upon which the cistern sits and the toilet bowl is mounted upon using bolts. Here's a couple of pictures to give you an idea: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Basically the face gets sheeted over with fibro, leaving holes for the toilet mountings and for the flush panel. The toilets are Caroma Royale, they cost me roughly $1100 each so not really that expensive (although I bought three of them as I'm replacing the existing toilets in the house also, so might have gotten a slightly better price than retail). You just need to ensure that they're mounted very well, as they have to support the weight of the toilet bowl plus the person sitting on it. I do know that a lot of plumbers don't like them because they're not as accessible as a standard wall-faced toilet for repairs, however I think it's hard to beat them for aesthetics. Re: Hung Toilet installation 7Mar 12, 2011 10:24 pm Thank You for the replies I dont think we will be getting a wall hung toilet as i have done some looking and they are too expensive Not sure why the previous owners would have poured cement down the pipes, I guess they didnt want a hole where the toilet was. There is a toilet in the bathroom but we are going to remove it as I dont like a toilet in the bathroom. Is it possible to cut a hole where it was previously and just get a new pipe or will we have to find a new site for the toilet? Looking at some of the designs on websites, they are all selling very similar products. I get that you want something stylish.
