Re: Do you have a hot water controller? 22Mar 11, 2011 12:43 pm [quote="blueblueblue"]We are getting a Rinnai INFINITY 32 but one of the main bathrooms is quite far from the unit /quote] This is the wrong thinking. The size of the unit that is required is not dependent on the distance of the run. Plumbers sometimes don't realize this. If you are going to have more than two people have showers at once then you could do with the 32. I think you will be disappointed if you think you are going to get less delay. If money is not a problem and you are better off with two small units placed strategically to minimize pipe runs than one big unit. When people build houses I see this type of thing happen all the time. People over dimensioning with out understanding how things work technically. Re: Do you have a hot water controller? 23Mar 11, 2011 1:18 pm We had one in our old house when we replaced our gravity fed hws with an instantaneous unit. It was really good once you had used it a few times to be able to select the temperature you like to shower & only turn on the hot tap. Unfortunately we cant have a instant hws in the house we are building (due to energy rating regs) so I need to make the most of what I have now! You don't have to worry about turning on your cold water tap to adjust the temperature; you simply turn on the hot water tap to the desired pressure and the water is at the exact temperature you've set on the panel. Very easy to change, so you can adjust your showers for summer and winter, however, if you have more than one controller in the house and use the them at the same time, e.g. if you're washing the dishes and have it set to 45°C and the kids turn on the tap in the bathroom that is set to 38°C, then the water in the kitchen will change to 38°C, as the temperature defaults to the lower temperature when multiple outlets are in use. They are as much a safety device for kids as they are for 'ease of use', in that as good as it is to be able to quickly turn on your flick mixer and know exactly what temperature you're going to get, you don't have to worry about scaulding yourself, or worse, your kids doing it accidentally... Re: Do you have a hot water controller? 25Jul 30, 2013 4:37 pm Talk about a nanny state. Tempering valves restricts the temp of our hot water because someone sometime may be scalded. This is a nonsense. I grew up in houses with no devices and we were taught to know that hot water hurts you. None of my family ever got hurt. AND - I know no-one who did. Most people just adjust them. Great little earner for plumbers though ... Re: Do you have a hot water controller? 26Feb 23, 2014 2:46 pm Hi all Rather bump this thread than start a new one. Got a builder's quote for extra $240 to supply and install one controller for the rinnai 26 hws. My parents have a similar sysyem with one controller and they told me that the only time they 'use' the controller is when there is a power failure and they hit the on button to start the hws again. The temp is preset to 50 and they don't lower the temperature. Just want to know if I can get away without the controller? It is more efficient to set to say 42 degrees and not mix with cold. But the biggest advantage is for when u have kids.
