Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 10, 2011 1:31 pm Hi I have a neighbour’s overhead power cable crossing not only the property, but also the house. We are in the process of doing a knock-down and rebuild and are being held up by the overhead cable. I’ve been quoted $2.5k for the pit and then (for good will) I also need to pay to run the cable from the pit to the neighbours. Any advise out there on how I could possibly get the energy company or council to accept or share the cost. I am at a loss, but thought I might just put the question out there. Re: Neighbours overhead power cable crossing property 3Mar 10, 2011 2:43 pm It might be similar to trees over hanging the fence. You have an absolute right to the air space over your property, but you'll need the neighbor to act on getting the connections done. First thing I would do is go around and speak to them about it. You might get a quick and cost free resolution if you ask. You won't get it cheap if you don't. Remember that you'll still have to be living next to them after you finish building(unless you move or they move) Try to be polite, you don't have to be friends but a friendly chat about that tree or what you are planning on doing might help take some stresses out of your build. Re: Neighbours overhead power cable crossing property 4Mar 10, 2011 2:46 pm Yip, over the original building. I can stand on my roof and touch it. I would not want to palm the cost on to the neighbour. More thinking about the Electricity company or council. Re: Neighbours overhead power cable crossing property 5Mar 10, 2011 3:32 pm Check your title plan to see if the electrical company have an easement for their cable. If there is no easement then ask them to move the cable. Re: Neighbours overhead power cable crossing property 6Nov 07, 2011 1:32 pm Advise to anyone demolishing and rebuilding. Following our experience, I'd recommend sorting out any overhead powercable, arbourists reports, easement issues and council permits before moving out and putting yourself in a position where time delays are costing you money. We sat in a rental property for 4 months waiting to get agreement between the neighbours and the local electricity provider to remove an overhead power cable that was stopping the demolishion company from starting. Re: Neighbours overhead power cable crossing property 7Nov 08, 2011 7:54 pm Unfortunatly council or the network sharing the cost of the works is very unlikely to happen due to boundry encroachment of the service already exsisting. Normally relocation of a service is at the owners cost. Im not sure of the rules in VIC but will the network allow you to do a mid span takeoff or a flying fox instead of going underground? It is alot cheaper to do it this way. Hi, Can anyone give me approx. price for overhead cupboards.
