Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge Re: Light or Dark? 7Mar 02, 2011 10:38 pm Thanks for the pics Erin we noticed in alot of the pics that they are leading to large open spaces or have high ceilings. We have 2550 ceilings going into our place so im a little worried that it will enclose the rooms too much. We've selected a dark grey/charcol carpet to go in the lounge & bed rooms to give a nice cosy feeling but in addition to the main flooring being dark im not sure if this would work without a huge windows, high ceilings or majorly open plan house. I'm just checking out some options of high gloss dark flooring as it seems this gives off alot of reflection and melds into the horizonal line between the floor and skirting boards kinda making the room look larger. Cheers Ant Re: Light or Dark? 8Mar 03, 2011 5:42 am It really depends what look you are having through your home. In the attached photos, I say the light timber as it makes the room light and airy and looks really pleasant, love the feature wall in the display house! IF, you are going for a Balinese look or something heavier than the top photo in scheme, then I’d say the dark Bamboo. I’m selling Bamboo flooring at Carpet Court, love it! Ours is solid Bamboo, I have to say the lighter colours look like Bamboo, the darker colours resemble timber flooring. ME, if I’m having Bamboo, I would like my floor to look like Bamboo, not imber Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Light or Dark? 9Mar 03, 2011 5:46 am I’m thinking of having an outdoor table made from this Bamboo!!! We don't have a lot of furniture so we'll kind of be starting fresh. We both like the eclectic style..adding a few French provincial style pieces in with some modern furniture. That's just an idea for now though.... I agree the dark floors do have a real warmth to them. Totally impartial at the moment! It's so hard! Re: Light or Dark? 13Mar 03, 2011 5:21 pm TinaG French provincial says lighter floors to me. same Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Light or Dark? 14Mar 04, 2011 9:09 am Hi all, we are shopping around for bamboo flooring and have decided to go with a darker walnut colour. our house will have more of a traditional/glam feel to it (i hope) - love the pics erin put up of the open plan living and dining room Michelle, maybe you could help with this - do you think the distressed bamboo (the one with little grooves throughout it) is not as strong as the smooth surface bamboo? this is what a bamboo salesman told me yesterday. Trudy Re: Light or Dark? 15Mar 04, 2011 9:36 am I have near black timber laminates with 2590mm ceiling heights - you can see pics in my thread - they are old I need to post some more! Definitely does not close the room in... I have white walls - I'm painting the walls darker in some rooms to close them in a bit i.e formal lounge needs to feel more intimate so I'm putting in a picture rail and painting the lower section a dark colour and keeping above the picture rail white. My reason for choosing darker floors is the look/feel in the home - I LOVE old homes that have an eclectic mix of old and modern furniture and I love REAL timber floors stained in the Black Japan stain with a high epoxy shine- couldn't afford that just yet so this was my substitute! Trudy I really can’t answer that unless I see and touch the product. But I would like to think the Bamboo salesman, would know more than me, as this is what he specialises in. Re: Light or Dark? 18Mar 04, 2011 10:15 pm Strandwoven is the hardest on the janka scale, followed by vertically laminated then horizonally laminated bamboo. I can't see distressed bamboo being more prone to damage unless u'd be sliding something heavy around on your flooring and it caught on one of the depressions - but who would do that???? I'd ask the supplier for some more info on his decision unless the distressed bamboo is of the vert or hor laminated type.
