Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Has anyone ever regretted their choices for paint/carpet? 21May 28, 2008 5:01 pm Yes, We both regret the day we choose dark brown carpet. Looks all nice in the glossy brochures but shows up every single piece of flint/dust/rubbish/cotton string/whatever.....never again. Re: Has anyone ever regretted their choices for paint/carpet? 22May 31, 2008 5:05 pm Well, today we went to some carpet places and we've pretty much decided on Nylon twist pile in a nice light fawn/pale-ish cool brown colour.
I originally had my heart set on plush pile, but it's SO expensive (upwards of $70 per square metre) and also it's so soft it's really TOO soft for what we want. We want heavy duty cause (a) we've got a heap of very heavy furniture and they'd leave indentations forever, (b) we'll have a new kitten who may have accidents or just cause stains or general marks and they'd all show up, and (c) every foot mark, scuff mark, etc would be very obvious... So the Nylon twist pile isn't quite as soft or completely even/plush-like, but it still has that "sea of carpet" effect, and is MUCH harder wearing, and is only $46 per square metre. (this is at Carpet Choice) Any opinions? How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Has anyone ever regretted their choices for paint/carpet? 24May 31, 2008 5:31 pm Um...what does that mean? lol Specs of what? The carpet? It's just nylon twist!! I don't know anything more than that, I'm afraid! How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Has anyone ever regretted their choices for paint/carpet? 25May 31, 2008 6:39 pm There are lots of different performance parameters that are indicated by scrutiny of any carpets' specs.
Consumers could do much better choosing correctly if the bothered to discern. BTW, you are probably doing well in that your choices have migrated to a more serviceable carpet than before. Ash. Re: Has anyone ever regretted their choices for paint/carpet? 26May 31, 2008 7:08 pm Oh, I see, yes.
I'm not sure what to look out for...I'm not entirely trusting of carpet salesmen, so... As far as I know, this is what I'm aware of in terms of wise choices... 1. Durability (not too soft or high a pile) 2. Colour fastness (apparently plain Nylon fades quicker than that other type of Nylon I've read about on carpet supplier websites) 3. Looseness of pile, like if you push down or separate the tufts, if there're big gaps, that's not good. Tight piles/tufts are good apparently. 4. General appearance. I want a soft plush look but long term wearability. I don't know...what else is there? How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! I'm from ABC News looking into this and wondering if anyone has been able to do this and IF NOT what hurdles were put your way.
