Re: Do you regret getting a ceramic cooktop? 6Feb 21, 2011 8:17 am Hi Blue, try gumpion with a damp cloth on your ceramic cooktop, it will remove most marks and scratches With 25 years kitchen experience and a passion for what I do, I have joined this forum to offer advice or at least my opinion on all things relevant to kitchens. Re: Do you regret getting a ceramic cooktop? 7Feb 22, 2011 2:08 pm A friend of mine recently purchased a Miele induction cooktop (ceramic) and there are already so many scratches on it. I am thinking of getting a gas ceramic cooktop, but a bit put off by the scraches on my friend's induction cooktop... I'd hate for it to look old and ugly so quickly after paying so much money for it.... Re: Do you regret getting a ceramic cooktop? 8Feb 22, 2011 2:10 pm By the way, the gas ceramic cooktop I saw in the Miele showroom had deep scratches on it too. It didn't look like it had been there for a very long time either... Re: Do you regret getting a ceramic cooktop? 9Feb 22, 2011 3:00 pm Drag your pans across any surface and you will mark them. Like everything you have to treat them according to the requirements. My ceramic cooktop booklet tells you not to use any pans that have grooves on the base - only smooth bases. This should in theory limit scratching. Cerapol is a godsend for any small marks. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Do you regret getting a ceramic cooktop? 10Feb 22, 2011 4:57 pm Had a glass cook top in the previous home for the first 5 years looked good but then the scratches started to build up. I am loving the gas cooktop (on natural gas) can bash around with the pots as much as I like, quicker to clean as well. Kyton Cerapol is great stuff, I still buy it to do the glass in the oven (I refuse to use oven cleaners too toxic) Cheers Lou http://take2-customdesigndownslope.blogspot.com 07-10-09 omg they have cut the block 14-05-10 we finally have the keys Re: Do you regret getting a ceramic cooktop? 12Feb 22, 2011 5:38 pm Sorry to ask a really dumb question - but if you dont have a ceramic cooktop what surface cooktop do you have instead?? Glass, stainless steel?? I would of thought both those would scratch just as easily. But have never had other than ceramic so cant say for sure Have had my ceramic cooktop for 2 years, no regrets at all, no problems whatsoever with normal sensible use. Had one for 8 years in old house too - only problem was a little chip where one of my kids dropped a china mug onto it. Ours have been gas so the saucepans dont sit on the ceramic surface itself, they sit on those frame things that go over the burners - or have I totally misunderstood the question?? Re: Do you regret getting a ceramic cooktop? 13Feb 23, 2011 9:15 pm Have a 6 year old Ceramic (glass?) Miele cooktop, not a single scratch or mark on it and use it at least 2-3 times a week. I love how seamless they are, go for the touch control ones because they just look like a slab of perfect black glass. Re: Do you regret getting a ceramic cooktop? 14Feb 23, 2011 11:21 pm We have an electric ceramic cook top and like Buzz I would have preferred a gas one but also like buzz it wasn't worth it to have a gas bottle just for a stove top. Unfortunately the frypans we have are not smooth on the bottom and have scratched our black ceramic stove top. BUT the smooth steel saucepans have also left marks. after 18 months I think ours looks terrible. Re: Do you regret getting a ceramic cooktop? 16Feb 24, 2011 8:33 pm I wouldn't have minded. Though I do like the stainless steel as it would have suited my oven which was stainless steel. I choose a black ceramic top when we went electric because my kitchen is mostly black. Re: Do you regret getting a ceramic cooktop? 18Feb 25, 2011 9:30 pm In the old house we had a free standing gas oven/cooktop which I loved. Moved into our temp accom while we built and had a black ceramic electric cooktop which I detested! I felt I couldn't look at it without it marking or scratching in some way. I used Cerapol as well, which was great, but I felt I had to scub and scrub and scrub. There were scratches on it too. I MUCH prefer gas stainless steel....but I might try the Cerapol on the glass in the oven! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! Oh well. Maybe it's the black. I tried the cerapol stuff and it helped a bit but wasn't anywhere near 100%. They do a protective coating too. ( same company) but they've never had any in stock at my local shops. Re: Do you regret getting a ceramic cooktop? 20Aug 13, 2017 11:18 am TOTALLY YES. I know this is an older post, but maybe, like me, someone is looking for opinions. Bought mine just over 12 months ago - it turns off when it thinks it is overheating so temperature fluctuates all the time. I was super aware of scratching it and was diligent in using the RIGHT products for cleaning and sealing, BUT it still scratched and I have regretted the decision almost from day 1. The child-lock must be held down for 5 seconds before it will turn on - drove me nuts, so I disabled it. There is a chip out of the centre back glass at the edge - how that would happen is a mystery...we didn't have the option of gas but I would NEVER do ceramic again. It looks lovely and streamlined, but SO impractical. Stir-fries always end up boiled vegetables because it never gets hot enough. Good luck with yours - maybe mine was just a dud. My daughter and son in law are about to start building, they are having a 600mm induction cook top and 900mm oven. It's personal preferance 5 11833 Use a product like Equisol's Vitalise to clean the deck then coat with a penetrating timber oil. It will look 10 years younger and add value to your home.
