Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building in Syd 9May 29, 2008 11:38 am Love Eden Brae's colours! We used their display home as inspirations for our house as well! They use a lot of bifold doors to alfresco. Would you be doing something similar? Re: Building in Syd 10May 29, 2008 1:34 pm Welcome to the forum Bernadette.
I'm building in Sydney too. Enjoy the ride ! We are loving living in our new home ! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.p ... &start=315 Re: Building in Syd 11May 29, 2008 4:58 pm Bernadette Good news, we have building approval... its been a very long 5 months. We have just finalised our selections except for tiles in the bathrooms so almost there. I'm so green with envy. Looking forward to reading about your progress. Good luck Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Welcome! 12May 31, 2008 7:57 pm I love your inspiration photos on your blog...there's some great ideas there.
We're building next door in St George - just got our plans in (again) We should be starting in August too.. C&G -------------------------------- A new building chapter begins.. Re: Building in Syd 13May 31, 2008 10:22 pm Hi Bernadette,
I see you're building in Lakewood which is just on the other side of where we are building (NR). We considered land in there but at the time there weren't any suitable blocks for us and plus we were not too keen on being forced to use one of the three builders (even though we were considering EB). Just wondering how come council took so long with approval? Anyway, welcome to the forum and good luck with your house. Re: Building in Syd 14Jun 02, 2008 3:44 am Thanks Chrissie and Graham, we will be bringing our blog up to date shortly so will have plenty of pics to go around
DNA, our approval took longer due to the developer not the council. The developer had us change our external colours several times. Originally we were a little conservative so spent at least 2mths trying to find a compromise. There was alot we were not allowed - timber garage doors included. It was a bit of a nightmare but I have to admit we are happier with our final selection as moved out of our comfort zone. Our external colours are a little louder compared to what we had originally chosen. Re: Building in Syd 15Jun 21, 2008 11:26 pm Southies Hi Bernadette - great !!! THanks to the guys here, I feel a lot more confident about itr all. Have fun........the forum is definitely addictive Hi Southie! We are also looking at building in Sutherland shire. Did you have ANY help from EB to get that silly zone surcharge of $8K reduced down? I will keep my eye on your blog too to learn any good tips you have! Their arguement, if I remember correctly, was that it covered costs incurred by building in an area a long distance from where their tradesmen usually are ie northwest.
Apart from the pre-contract headaches, we are ecstatic with our CSR, who has been handling all my question, changes, pricing queries. Plans went inot council this past week..YAY Have you found that they refuse to negotiate ? If we had known that from the outset, we would have saved a lot of time & frustration. Will be going o/seas in couple of days, so won't be able to follow the forum for a few weeks. ALSO, our computer died - time for a new one ! Am using my daughter's mac - UGH !! So, might catch up with you when I get back. PS We're neighbours - we're building in Como, the other side of the highway. I looked thru your posts but couldnt see which EB design you has settled on. We like the cambridge 35sq ( at the moment).. We are building the Cambridge 34 Family with Boston corner facade. It's not my cup of tea design-wise, but we didn't have much choice as we had to find a narrow fitting floorplan because of our corner block. I've recently posted a picture of the display home on our blog : www.radds.com.au SORRY this link isn't working. Will have to figure htis out at some later stage. Good luck with your meeting nxt month, but be prepared for no negotiating. If you keep that in mind, the processwill go much more quickly. Second level bricks and facade bricking was completed last week and the roof tiles were delivered yesterday. So far our experience with EB has been very smooth. We are really happy with the fast progress and have had absolutely no reason to contact anyone. More photos to come. http://jamesandbee.blogspot.com/ Thanks for your reply. I will just wait and see I guess.
