This way the curtains on the sliding door and big dining window would be nice features, and the tall narrow windows would complement but not overpower. What a gorgeous display house! Kylie Kylie love that idea ... didn't think about tying them in together like that! ref_kt If you like Curtains why not get them on all. I am sure if you are having them made to measure you could get them to fit to all the different window sizes. Most pre-made curtains come in several width's so I am sure u could find ones to fit the little windows. I did want to do that, but worried with the big dining room window being close to the small double hung it might be a bit too much with so many curtains? building1 If you don't have stacker doors I would probably go just Romans, but thats just me. I went into Million Dollar Curtains yesterday and they had a display with romans with drapes at the one side I guess for a more formal look. If you don't need to go in and out the door I would maybe go romans all the way with no drapes at all. The doors in the family room and rumpus will both be used to access the patio ... so probably not romans for those doors ... thanks for the idea though. More options to think about for the windows. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Window coverings for family/dining room ... suggestions 8Feb 11, 2011 9:49 pm We will be having drapes on the sliding doors, blinds would look good on the other windows. We will be having blinds with sheers on some windows, not on the sliders though. Blinds on the sliders can be such a pain, if you go in and out all of the time, with Drapes you can open up enough to get in and out if you dont want to have them open all of the way. Re: Window coverings for family/dining room ... suggestions 9Feb 12, 2011 8:04 am just a few quick points - you virtually have no stack back area to the right of the dining room window, meaning that curtains will not be able to be drawn back fully past the window. You can do different window treatments in one room (which can also help to define areas), and choosing the same fabric or colourway can help tie them together. The 2 narrow windows could have curtains to one side of each window (ie drawn to left of left window, right of the right window. There is a lot going on in the extended room so how you dress the windows will also be affect on the rest of the decoration (eg are you having a feature wall like the display house), your style/colour of furniture etc, will help decide if you want the window treatments are to blend in or be a feature. Oh dear ... more to think about I wouldn't have even thought about not being able to pull the curtains all the way back in the dining room. As for the look of the area ... we're going to go with a lighter sort of theme. Lighter timber furniture (if I can find any - it doesn't seem to be in vogue atm), I really like the light blues and light greens ... but I'd say we'll sway towards blue as DH doesn't like green. The walls are all a light neutral tone (Dulux Male full strength and window frames/skirting/doors in the 1/4 strength - similar to Hog Bristle but with a redder undertone rather than yellow). Kitchen is light neutral colours as well. We have a blank canvas with the room as I don't have the furniture for that area as yet. This area is the family room, room where we'll entertain, eat all the family meals etc ... so I suppose the heart of the home. The rumpus room will be the children's playroom ... but I'd like to blend/carry through the same sort of theme with the window coverings. The first picture Stormy has posted in this post has the sort of look I would like with the blues and creams. viewtopic.php?p=668186#p668186 ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Hi there I'm looking for a independent company for a expert report on my blinds ,sheers & plantation shutters I'm in Melbourne 0 9229 Hi everyone, Newbie renovator here, after some advice for combining our family room in the picture and the alfresco and make a larger family room.
