Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Feb 11, 2011 9:07 pm Is it true?? Only black mesh available these days? I have a piece of beautifully mid grey mesh that we bought years ago at M10 or Bgs ... Seems like consumer options have shrunk, or should I say, options are non-existent Has anyone recently sourced grey flyscreens in Sydney? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Grey flyscreen mesh 2Feb 11, 2011 9:18 pm just had to go check ours... definitely black, but our frames are woodland grey so I thought they could have easily sprayed or powdercoated the mesh grey too... ours are steel mesh though not the normal type. could they fade to grey maybe? Re: Grey flyscreen mesh 3Feb 12, 2011 10:55 am I didn't think they can fade donuts . This is the soft type of mesh (I think fibrelgass, not sure), I've seen yours too, it's more rigid I think. Is yours the really really thick one, or just a thin mesh but more rigid? The one we bought is still brand new (never installed) and is nice fresh grey. I'd hate a black mesh as it would show more clearly where on the window it is, so there will be a big contrast between screened and non-screened areas of the window. Kind of ruins the look My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Grey flyscreen mesh 4Feb 12, 2011 11:09 am Flyscreen mesh is black so you can see through it easily. Grey will make it very hard to see out. From the outside of the house it will look white. Re: Grey flyscreen mesh 5Feb 12, 2011 2:48 pm Funny you should mention white, GypsyGrannies1. A neighbour has it and it's pure white. Didn't even notice it at first. Looks white. So grey should look ... grey, I'd say. Black is too stark, grey is softer, but still on the darker side. Doesn't help me, though, still haven't found anyone who sources it My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Grey flyscreen mesh 6Feb 12, 2011 7:30 pm Lex Is yours the really really thick one, or just a thin mesh but more rigid? I don't have anything to compare it with, so not sure of the difference between the two types you are talking about. It seems thicker than the mesh we have on our sliding doors; definitely more rigid of course, but its extra rigidity might give it the impression of being thicker when really it may not be. Re: Grey flyscreen mesh 7Feb 12, 2011 7:49 pm Hmmm ... had to say. I was talking about the fine thin mesh which can be used for those with pets as it's stronger than fibreglass. They look the same though, very thin - until you touch them. Is this mesh maybe on your front door? Maybe you have the thick 316 or 304 stainless steel mesh whihc doesn't need bars or diamond grilles?? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Grey flyscreen mesh 8Feb 12, 2011 8:01 pm yes, it's the front security door and doesn't need the diamonds or bars. looks kind of invisible if you are looking at it from a distance. not sure of the 306 or 316 thing sorry!
