In the early stages of planning some a bathroom renovation and the separate toilet is first on the planning list..
Quick overview, single story older house on a slopping block, so the area under toilet/bathroom is all accessible but seems to be a formed concrete floor whereas the rest of the house is floor boards.
So, down to the specifics:
Went looking at toilets today and compared to what we currently have they are all different..
The current toilet, which has an 'S' trap has a vent pipe running directly from the S bend, out the exterior wall and up 90 degrees to what i assume is a vent pipe to the roof...
As shown in the 2 pics at the end...
The floor waste has an offset of 220mm which makes the available toilet choices limited from what I have seen...and no toilets we saw would have connections for such a vent..
The one place we queried this said he had never heard of a vent directly off the toilet and didn't think it would be needed on a new toilet..
The floor waste goes directly down through the floor and can be seen outside going directly down into the ground.
Another vent pipe exists from the bathroom sink but these waste connections go into the ground under the house at a separate location..
So, the question is..
Is this vent still required? If so, how do i get a new toilet which will be suitable?
I intend having this installed by a plumber when i find one, but thought if i could get some info on my own it could save wasted planning time...
(btw any Newcastle based plumbers on the board??)
Any info would be greatly appreciated
