A bit confused here........tile selections not due for another month., so want to get this right well beforehand . Lighter grout will show dark contamination & soiling, and vice versa. Dark grout will often show collected soap scum or calcification. Irrespective, cement based grout is absorbent, and can soil & stain readily. Sealing is therefor a good idea. Epoxy grout is a water-tight, non-absorbent grout, so doesn't need sealing (but not all tilers will do it, as it is more challenging to work with and clean up when grouting). Ash. Re: Sealing tiles 5May 25, 2008 3:32 pm Well, I guess that is one more job to do before we move in. Off to bunny's today. Do the sealers include a mould inhibitor too? (shame I didn't think about this before we built huh....one of many things)
How long before grout is cured? It's been about 6 weeks since it was done, so it should be fine to do now right? Thanks for the info Ash, you're a champion Re: Sealing tiles 6May 25, 2008 4:13 pm Dolly22 Well, I guess that is one more job to do before we move in. Off to bunny's today. It's been about 6 weeks since it was done, so it should be fine to do now right? Now I'm confused! Before you said "tile selections not due for another month". Many grouts claim to have mould inhibitors in them, but these cannot be relied upon. Mould can be a complex issue, and to put it bluntly, the claims are quite unsubstantiated. Best defense against mould is good ventilation, and preventing standing water. Bunnings won't have Aquamix products. I'm NOT saying other products aren't any good. Just that I know Aqmix to be good quality reliable products, and safer to use than many others. Better products will be from speciality tile sealing companies, rather than general application companies. This is another good supplier http://spiritsealers.com/ If you can't get Aquamix or Spirit Sealers, try the better tile stores, rather than Bunnings.
