Looks like the slab has come through the rain showers yesterday without any obvious problems, now waiting for next stage. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We will be in HB in a couple of weeks to discuss a few things with Electrician and Tiler and contact a few concreter's for Driveway and Patio (will have to see if the guys who did the slab do driveways etc). Don't want to be too forward but if you are available would like to catch up for a coffee and compare notes. Category 2 expected overnight, but Category 5 following up and expected Thursday, so we are hoping all will be OK for them. HB will eventually get the high winds and rain depression, so building progress may be delayed, just have to wait and see. Don't have one yet!! But yes the team were up with the sparrows and when these photos were taken about 9.30am they were well into it. Overnight light rain and overcast early on. Not sure what stage they finished today, my trusty photographer couldn't get back for more photos, so will have to wait till tomorrow to show and tell. From back of house. Fortunately we have our daughter and son in law and very good friends to be our eyes, and from what I can see everything is going along fine without my "help" although my mate (who knows me very well) believes CB will probably take out a restraining order on me before the job is finished because of all the calls and questions I make to him (not true only spoke to CB once this week, up to today!!). The guys erecting the frames are doing a great job, can't believe how close the slab edges and house frame match up, looks fantastic. Also Coral are very good at keeping the site clean and have done some soil leveling and filling to ensure if there is heavy rain the slope is away from the slab to the drains to prevent pooling adjacent to the slab. I am sure once the brickie's start it won't look so neat and tidy. The sea level is now predicted to be higher than first antisipated, which means they now could be in trouble. Hope everyone who is going to be effected by this Cyclone Yasi come through still healthy. There will be a lot of damage to property but hopefully no injuries. Still keep thinking of a National Disaster Fund, we all should have been making small contributions to years ago, because there is going to be a need for more money to help with repairs to homes and infrastructure and what will we see another Levy (tax) where we could have had a massive amount available without another Levy if done years ago. (rant over) Till next time. I'm watching the news at the moment, it's heartbreaking. haha ... happy you are 'training' up CB for me ... by the time I start he'll be used to a 'hovering' home owner Your place is looking good, love to see the site nice and clean too. That was something that was bothering me, the build next to us was/is a pigsty ... never seen such a disgusting build site, which moved over onto our block, every week-end we'd go down and pick up all the rubbish on our site and dispose of it. I didn't want our neighbours having to do this through our build ... so I hope our subbies are neat too. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Coral Portsea in Hervey Bay - Time for a Slab - P 2 54Feb 03, 2011 7:59 pm Hi Nic, Our daughter and family had a terrifying night in Townsville. Spent all night in the Walk in Wardrobe. Power and water no go, fortunately they have a small generator and filled the bath with water before the cyclone came through. A tree came down out the front of the house but from what they can see no major damage to the house. So very lucky Will be a few days before back to "normal" for them all, and kids can go back to school and shops start to open etc. House roof frames were being erected today so steady progress continues.
