Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: "flatpack" Deep kitchen cupboards? 3Jan 24, 2011 10:05 pm Whatalass Hi i've just started renovating my kitchen in a new house. Its an awkward design, but it looks like i'm stuck with it. I have two walls that have 1 m benches to the windows and brick walls. The cupboards in them are only 60cm - so there is a wasted space of 40cm behind them. Whilst being very deep, I was thinking of turning these cupboards into draws and having the full 1m accessible. (I did think of shuffling everything back 30cm, but that means I have to replace the flooring which I cant afford to do so. Next challenge was cost - I was thinking of using ikea cabinets, however they only go to 60cm. Is it possible to buy "off the shelf" deep draw cabinets? If so where? Thanks very much As the poster below said you should be able to get what you want from companies that make custom flat packs. Prices are on par with the likes of Ikea or bunnings, the difference being you get exactly what you want rather than standard sizes. However think you will have trouble with drawers 1m deep. A couple of issues I see is opening to get to the back means 1m of space in the kitchen that needs to be free, secondly I doubt you could get runners to allow a drawer to open that far, and if you could they would have to be some serious runners. So yes having a 1m deep cupboard sounds like a good idea of using otherwise wasted space, but having them as drawers maybe not such a good an idea. Re: "flatpack" Deep kitchen cupboards? 4Feb 03, 2011 3:37 pm Hi, I have been wondering the same thing myself. Hoping to do 900mm deep units along the wall with all pot drawers under, but I hadnt thought of the runners (and naturally I want soft close, to add to the equation.) Does anyone have deeper kitchen cupboards? Is it possible to get longer, stronger drawer runners? Hi, Can anyone give me approx. price for overhead cupboards.
