They had a property they were trying to sell so where not ready to move into ours. We were able to rent it at a price far below the 'market' value. It was all part of our condition of sale. We only had to move once. Re: Where did you live when you built? 22Jan 17, 2011 9:36 pm We are renting in a small country town while we build, only paying $250 per week. Had the option of living with the outlaws but thought for our sanity and theirs we would give it a miss. We live 2 hours away from the build, inlaws live about 20 mins. We are in this town for DPs work so it is all good but in saying that if he didnt have the job he does we wouldnt be able to afford to pay the mortgage and rent...i can totally understand how it is so unaffordable for most people!! The road to success is always under construction House completed April 2011 - slowly making it a home... Re: Where did you live when you built? 23Jan 18, 2011 7:24 pm I'm a bit late to this thread. I'm currently living with inlaws. I do love them to death... but no matter how much you love someone- seeing them every day really gets under your skin. I tend to run to my bedroom like a teenager and watch movies on my iPad. lol We're lucky that our house that we bought also came with a shop and a flat on top of the shop.... so our aim is to live in the flat from next month and watch the build happening at the house below/nextdoor. Although I'm living with inlaws- they're charging us.. its not free... so the sooner I get in the flat- the sooner I can walk around naked and not pay rent! Nonna's Nest House set for completion November 2013 Re: Where did you live when you built? 24Jan 18, 2011 10:02 pm haha nonna, that's soo funny, even tho my mum has offered for us to move in, i think everyone is a bit hesitant, as my other has also suggested that we spend a bit of time at each of the parents places and maybe shed it for some. even tho it's my mum we would prob stay with most it's hard becoz i've neva actually lived with my step-dad, so that will be interesting, esp when he's neva had kids of his own and likes his own space very neat and tidy and i've got 2 kids, that r like hurricanes some days. so will be interesting am actually hoping by some miracles, we won't have to move in with anyone and it will all go smoothly viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43238 building with kerdels in gabbadah, wa block purchased april 2010 signed with builder oct 2010 papers signed jan 2011 prestart done 17/01/2011 Re: Where did you live when you built? 25Jan 19, 2011 8:49 am We rented in a nearby suburb. We added the total cost of the years rent to the cost of the house and it became part of the total cost. Without the rental we couldn't build. So build cost + 1 years rent = Total house cost. Then decided whether we could afford to build with that added cost. We tried not to see it as "rent" but as part of the build cost. We also tried to skim down our living expenses that year as much as possible without it being a drag on the kids. eg. less take away dinners, treats etc. It's not easy but the end reward is worth it if you can manage it. edit - forgot to add, that we put the 2 kids in one room so that we could use the other room for storing all our moving boxes. Much cheaper than storing in a facility I think. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Where did you live when you built? 26Jan 19, 2011 9:34 am WE had no choice but to rent while we built. We moved 230 kms in the January and managed to gain a rental in a small country town that was large enough for us to fit 3/4 of our possessions. Unfortunately there wasn't a lot of rental houses here and we had to pay quite a bit to rent. We could have had a rental house through my work 60 kms away which would have been cheaper but it would have meant moving the kids to different schools twice in 2 years and we wouldn't have had much space I suspect in whatever they'd managed to find us as rentals were pretty tight there too. We had to get rid of the rest of our stuff to fit in the rental which to this day I am regretting with a few of the things. Simple things like metal shelving for the garage is so expensive. If I'd realised how expensive we would have brought it with us as my work paid for our move. I am now looking to buy a futon or sofa bed. ( we had to get rid of one before we moved because it wouldn't fit in the rental house!) We sold in the February ( the month after we moved) and signed for land contract to be exchanged the day after the sale went through. Titles were issues in the April, building contract was signed and 14 months later we had key handover. I don't think I would have liked living far from the build. We were less than 2kms away. I'm not sure how Zarli manages it. It would drive me nuts. Re: Where did you live when you built? 27Jan 19, 2011 12:28 pm Hi all Thanks so much for your replies. Apologies for not coming in sooner. We have decided to buy established. We could probably just squeeze by with rent costs and a mortgage, but in all honesty, I just don't want to. I don't want to end up in debt (well more debt than the mortgage ). Now the fun begins - looking for the house! No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed.
