Re: Oil versus Acrylic paints 6Dec 27, 2010 8:56 am Thanks ozzyjack....I think the acrylic paints rust the paint tins at a greater rate than oil because they have a higher water content. Bare metal should be primed with an oil based primer...I think water based paints are easier to use but don't quite give the gloss look as well Re: Oil versus Acrylic paints 7Dec 30, 2010 4:43 pm From what I can gather, oil paints yellow, are tougher and go on well. Acrylic paints don't yellow, chip more easily and leave streak marks. The painter will also prefer acrylic paints since the brushes/rollers just wash out in water. Also, if yoou want the highest gloss level, then only oil paints will achieve this. Acrylic paints do not flow out of the brush easily as oil base paints so oil base can smooth out after application acrylic need s some additives for easy painting however tends to leave more visible paint brush streaks on wood. Is it necessary to oil underneath the boards before laying? 0 1932 Hi, as per the subject. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck? Thanks 0 10971 |
