Browse Forums Building A New House Re: External colour scheme 5Dec 07, 2010 12:03 pm Thanks....no I've searched brick, colorbond and building websites. Our street frontage is abit different to most houses in that it is about 35m (which includes a 3 car garage). It will be completely Blue Steel Flash brick (no render), except for the garage doors which will be timber (or at least look like timber, I'm not sure what the product is called). I haven't been able to find any houses that have a similar 'look', so have been doing alot of imaging in my head. Not very successfully, I feel, as this imaging thing isn't really my forte. Lisa Re: External colour scheme 6Dec 23, 2010 12:37 pm Hi Lisa We are also building a long ranch style home, and couldn't agree with you more that finding similar homes to get ideas from is a nightmare. I change my mind all the time about brick colors and subsequently roof colors etc. Good Luck Re: External colour scheme 7Dec 23, 2010 1:09 pm I am in drafting stage of ranch style,is your brick dark.A veranda can make house look darker(my view). You could post plan on H1,or ask people to post there ranch house. Re: External colour scheme 8Dec 23, 2010 1:17 pm Hi pattycake I keep changing my mind from a pale/creamy brick (Austral Maize) to a reddish brick with blue flashed thorugh it to complement the ironstone roof. I agree that a dark brick can make a ranch house with a veranda accross teh front look very dark so I have tried to keep things on the light side. Have you chosen a brick yet?? Re: External colour scheme 9Dec 23, 2010 1:23 pm near me theres a ranch style metricon been built with the same colour choices as you.i think it looks great but my missus hates it.i guess its a vegemite thing you love it or hate it.i,ll try to get a photo of it for you today Re: External colour scheme 10Dec 23, 2010 3:10 pm I have narrowed it down Austral Newport or Parchment,Newport has a few more colours .I am having Colourbond Bushland for roof and spouting.Windows wil be White Birch or Classic Cream(dark frames show to much dirt/dust etc again my view)Have not decided on fascia or garage door ,leaning towards classic cream. My veranda posts will be colourbond classic cream. My plan is in House Plan Thread. Re: External colour scheme 11Dec 30, 2010 4:17 pm wow...thanks everyone. Hi Chameel.... I have made most of my colour choices from looking at the typical smaller frontage houses in new estates. Having said this, where I live there is only one other house with blue steel flash bricks and it is teamed with a surfmist roof and white window frames, trim amd garage doors. Not my cup of tea. The blue steel flash brick is definitely not a light brick, but I don't think it is dark either. Our verandah, if you can call it that, is only wide enough for a path...just checked our plans and it is 1200m. After reading Pattycakes comments I'm hoping that the shadow created by the verandah overhang won't be too dark. Hi darrell81.....glad for your comment...at least one other person might like my home!! I'd love to see a photo if you can. I will try and post our plans on this site....never done this before, so will try and work out how. Re: External colour scheme 12Jan 22, 2011 11:59 am Hi everyone...sorry for the long absence. I have posted the front elevation of our house...well, at least, I hope I have. I've followed instructions for uploading images and hope that it has worked!! http://img401.imageshack.us/i/frontelevations.jpg/ We have actually started building, if you could call it that....footings have been poured....so exciting after having just been growing weeds for the last far too many months! If I submit this message and the image actually works (that is, you can all see it) then it will inspire me to take photos of the build. We finally decided on charcoal window frames(hope it works) and ironstone fascia (this is where I would add one of those terrified looking smiley faces, if I knew how to add them!) Re: External colour scheme 13Jan 22, 2011 1:45 pm Belah Brick - Blue Steel Flash Envious is an understatement. We (the GLW and I) loved thee bricks. There are 2 places down the road from theOut lwas place where we are living whilst doing our known re build. Looks SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good. Colors sound like they'll look great from what I remember of them Re: External colour scheme 14Jan 22, 2011 1:58 pm Hi, yes I love these bricks too. I especially like that they are a browny colour under the blue, so if any get chipped/damaged there is no ugly orange to be seen. Having said that, I have not yet seen a damaged brick on our house. Very pleased!!...though it is very early stages. I'm renovating - building a small extension at the back of the late Edwardian house. This is the first stage. Second stage of the renovation will be to replace roof on… 0 1131 Before you rip it up, if you can in the grout lines, drill some holes and pour/inject techgrip by sika. I have used it to bond mdf to timber, but in the process it dripped… 1 4439 7 5256 |
