Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 11, 2008 10:23 am Re: Any first time home owners building? 8May 11, 2008 10:19 pm We had looked at many established houses in the area that we like. We did the house hunting about 1- 1.5 years. We could not find any house that we afford to buy even though there were some nice houses.
One day, we went to a new estate and visited some home display. Thus, we decided to be 1st home builder & 1st home buyer. In my view, it will be a good experience/ Re: Any first time home owners building? 9May 12, 2008 8:30 am We're first home owners/builders as well. For the amount of money we're paying, we'd much rather be the first people ever to live in the house. Also, we can't get anything better/closer to Melbourne CBD without spending even more. Re: Any first time home owners building? 10May 12, 2008 8:59 am hi hi,
We're first home buyers as well....i think the main reasons for us building instead of buying existing has been mentioned above. I'm a bit fussy, and want all the new pretty stuff, so for the price u pay for an exisitng, u mite as well build and get the stuff u want...hehe ask me again if i regret building, when we actually START building...hahahahah Thuy Re: Any first time home owners building? 11May 12, 2008 12:40 pm It looks like the stamp duty savings are a big reason for everyone to build their first home.
When we choose the home we are currently building, we also considered the cost of moving, so we aren't forced to move due to a lack of room. Are there any other first home owners from Sydney who are building? Almost all the responses are from people in Melbourne! Re: Any first time home owners building? 12May 12, 2008 12:48 pm Victoria rules!
Ray. Second Time 'Round Re: Any first time home owners building? 13May 25, 2008 10:31 pm We're first home buyers as well - in Brisbane. We spent almost a year looking at established houses and we rarely found anything that was worth what we could afford - most houses we looked at in our price range still required extensive renovations (you've gotta love those "in original condition" homes! ), and anything in a decent condition was always sold before we could take the next step.
We had never considered building a home to be an option; we always just assumed it was more expensive and stressful. However, we became a bit disappointed with our house hunting, and started to look at land. We were pleasantly surprised when we realised that we could move only 10 minutes away from the areas we wanted to buy in, and build a brand new home on a decent size block of land. Construction will be starting in less than 2 weeks, and we haven't looked back on our decision yet! Re: Any first time home owners building? 14May 26, 2008 9:36 am First home buyers building here too! (technically we own an apartment as well... but that doesn't really count as our home).
We decided to build because for the money we were looking at we'd be looking at a pretty crappy house in the inner-west of melbourne, or a reasonable house out in the sticks. Reality is that building a new 4 bedroom home is costing us less than our teeny little 2 bedroom apartment in southbank! Alan and Thuy in Melbourne Building a second time! Re: Any first time home owners building? 15May 26, 2008 11:01 am Yep I'm another first home owner, first building!
As mentioned previously, we decided to build because of the saving of stamp duty! We would have saved ouselves around $13k because we were planning to build instead of buy an established home. Also, when we do decide to sell, we would get more money back from the home. That's the perks you get for going through all the stress of building a home. Cheers. Re: Any first time home owners building? 16May 28, 2008 10:29 am Hi Michael,
We are building in the north west of sydney , inside the newbury estate. We are first home builders as well, saw a lot of prebuilt homes overly priced & poor quality of materials & appliances used. We are building with Mirvac - Avalon is the model..we are half way through , they will put in the gyprock this week. Whereabouts are you building? Cheers, RJ Re: Any first time home owners building? 17May 29, 2008 9:04 pm Hi there,
Good to see someone else from Sydney finally post in here, especially from the north west. We are (will be) building in Kellyville Ridge, so right next door. Hope the construction is going well! Re: Any first time home owners building? 18Jun 01, 2008 9:29 am Yep so far going on well, the contract due date is aug4th, but the builder said can expect to complete earlier.
Couple of friends building in Kellyville ridge with Clarendon. Good luck with ur project!! Cheers, RJ Re: Any first time home owners building? 19Jun 01, 2008 1:44 pm We're first time home builders as well, but over in WA. Initially I told my husband that I didn't want to build, and would rather buy a house to do up (as long as it was livable).
But in the end the place with the derelict house fell through (it wasn't officially on the market and person decided to keep it after all) so the next best thing we found was a really nice block out of town rather than a small and old houses in town. And here we are living in the shed with building about to start soon. Really though we could have brought a block of land in town, with a house for probably half the price it's costing us for bulding plus land. But in the end it's almost a dream house we'll end up with (well as close as you get to it with a limited budget anyway) and in a location & space where I'm happy to live for a very long time. First time 20Jun 01, 2008 3:57 pm We are building our first home. The reasons differs from my husband to me. Hubby wanted to build for the stamp duty savings. I wanted to build because I looked at quite a few established houses and they were so expensive compared to what you get. I compared the costs of buying established with the bigger house we could get if we built. I can tell you now that there is no way we could afford to buy the same sized house established that we are building.
In addition, with building you can choose everything that you want. Plus you get some of the modern conveniences, such as a theatre room, which you do not get with an established home. A quick update, we didn't have site start before Easter. Summit can't seem to give me a day when they are scheduled to begin, so I'm left with a vague "within 10-20… 4 26698 Can anyone give me any onfo on New Homes WA?
