I meant the runs that run a silver concave strip along the top of drawers and along the bottom of overhead cupboards. I'm not a fan of handles, as you can always date a kitchen by the handles that it has. We have none and our kitchen is from the early 70s. Everyone thinks it's new! Even though it's matt I have to clean marks off the doors, but i'm sure i'd have to do this anyway. Re: To handle or not to handle 8Nov 13, 2010 4:54 pm We had handles like these in the house we rented during our build - I was forever catching my tops/clothes on them when working in the kitchen... Building on the Sunshine Coast - Land settled 22nd July 2009 Building contract finally signed (after much deliberation on our part) 11th November 2009 Building commences 25th January 2010 - small local builder End of June - almost completed fit out 26th July - MOVE IN DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Re: To handle or not to handle 9Nov 13, 2010 8:32 pm We have similar ones, but they are more rounded. Nothing catches on them as the rounded edges means clothing slides off IYKWIM. We also have them on pot drawers that are 900mm wide and they open easily. I love them and am very glad no-one talked me out of them (though many people tried. lol) I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. We have all handleless except for on the pantry. Love it. Love the clean look. http://s946.photobucket.com/albums/ad302/melrich2/?action=view¤t=IMG_0195.jpg&newest=1 http://s946.photobucket.com/albums/ad302/melrich2/?action=view¤t=IMG_0195.jpg&newest=1#!oZZ1QQcurrentZZhttp%3A%2F%2Fs946.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fad302%2Fmelrich2%2F%3Faction%3Dview%26current%3DIMG_0210.jpg%26newest%3D1 Re: To handle or not to handle 11Nov 14, 2010 8:41 am I've got something similar to Melrich 1) Shadow line for all drawers (no external handles) 2) Handles for all full height doors 3) Push to open for doors above fridge, etc 4) No overhead cupboards (that is, no cupboards with a space below), but if I did have I would drop the base by 10 mm to provide a handle. Try to get soft close for both the drawers (everyone thinks of this) and cupboards (had to make a change while they are building it) Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: To handle or not to handle 12Nov 15, 2010 9:57 am Melrich White gloss hides fingerprints very well. Interesting that you've had issues with matt kitchens. None of ours have ever been a problem, but we've never had dark colours. Re: To handle or not to handle 13Nov 15, 2010 10:22 am http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l48 ... 203106.jpg Hi this is our renovated kitchen. We choose to have white with white splash (it is not a clear white which would turn blue but a pure white), also with seamless cupboards (no handles). We chose to have our pantry with no handle and it works really well. We also have cupboards above and a bulk head with lights. Unfortunately we couldn't have a huge gas stove as we are on a 9inch slab of concrete (suspended) and the cost would have been tremendous. I also have the one long draw dishwasher -- and I love it (no more bending) and it fits in more dishes. Interesting that you've had issues with matt kitchens. None of ours have ever been a problem, but we've never had dark colours. We haven't had our own issues but when we were looking at finishes for our kitchen, just about every showroom we went into it was really obvious how badly the matt finishes showed up fingermarks...but yes as you say, darker is worse. We were worried about the white high gloss but I will say one thing it does well is disguise finger marks (not so much food splashes and stuff). Re: To handle or not to handle 15Nov 16, 2010 1:45 pm I have high gloss white and don't have a problem. In the past I did have a granite stone in black for benches and it showed everything! High gloss white isn't bad at all. But I guess it depends on where your sun shines in and what reflection you have. Re: To handle or not to handle 16Nov 16, 2010 9:07 pm Why my friend said gloss finish is fully of fingermarks? She all the time clean up? Tomorrow I have to make decision which one I have to choose. I was thinking about semi gloss. Colour will may be latte- not sure yet. Of course I like gloss but worry about fingermarks. I think on lighter colors you will find gloss hides fingermarks much better than matt or semi gloss finish. But your best bet is to visit some showrooms and look for yourself. Every surface has its issues so you really need to think about what is important to you and then test the surface in a display space according to your criteria. Don't rush in because once you have selected a material and work has started there is no turning back (or at least not without significant cost). I was looking at these two options also. But joles, I had trouble opening soft-close drawers with this kind of handle in one of the showrooms. Are your soft close or regular? And could you tell me the width of the handle approx? Thanks for sharing. Tell me, off topic, but what is your splashback. Its lovely. Re: To handle or not to handle 20Nov 17, 2010 10:35 am Radha Melrich, I just love your kitchen. Thanks for sharing. Tell me, off topic, but what is your splashback. Its lovely. Thank you. The splashback is made of stainless steel, nickel and glass tiles in what they call a "brick" mosaic. Black on light wood does look good. Not sure if it will be as long lasting as a steel finish? 6 4595 Get some long brass machine screws and bolt right through the gate and put brass acorn nuts and washers on the other side. It will never come off 1 6007 2 4465 |
