Re: Built in's 11Nov 05, 2010 8:57 pm Hey thanks NeverFinished . I wasn't sure if I could mention the coffeesnobs website which I've been a member of for many years as javabeen. I too think serious coffee machines look great, but then again I go to extremes when it comes to coffee . When I hear people spend $4000 on a built in, I just hope they've compared the taste of the coffee to a real espresso machine. For $4k you can get setup with gear that can get superior tasting coffee to an automatic and your friends will agree, trust me! But I appreciate that they do take up a lot of space. In our new kitchen, I've allowed for approx 1.5mtrs of bench space for my current setup as that what it takes up at the moment - Machine, grinder, knock box, etc. You could get away with about 700mm of space, its just that my gear is well, commercial grade. But that's not an issue as the gear will sit at the end of a 6mtr bench and we still have a 3mtr island as well. It all comes down to whats more important to you, fantastic tasting coffee, or a streamlined looking kitchen. Happy brewing. Re: Built in's 12Nov 05, 2010 10:39 pm So is there a non built in one that is little maintenance and doesn't look so 'elaborate' for lack of a better word. I guess the quality of the integrated can be no worse than that made with a regular kettle. They need a quiz on that forum to find out the best coffee machine for a particular person. I'm interested in either option, maybe there is a happy medium between quality and speedy use/maintenance??? I thought quality of coffee was More to do with the coffee than the machine Re: Built in's 13Nov 07, 2010 4:09 pm MrsGreen Hmm, do you agree Moogles? Are you a coffee lover? I was intending to get the Miele built in for both looks and that we drink a dozen cups plus a day (we like our coffee!). I don't like the idea of a coffee machine that takes time or takes up space, but I guess the automatics are comparable to using a kettle as we do now. Well I do have to say I've had better coffees from my machine at home than many of the cafes I have been to! My machine takes up only 600mm width of space - looks amazing and makes a good coffee in a short space of time - without it having to dominate my kitchen... It depends on what you are after I guess - for my kitchen I didn't want a clunky machine sitting around - and am perfectly happy with my decision..... I do agree however if you get the chance to sample from a variety of machines it would be well worth it and to make a decision with that in mind... Re: Built in's 14Nov 08, 2010 9:32 am horaldo I'm what you might call a coffeesnob - a home barista and coffee roaster, so I have to tell you that any automatic coffee machine is going to make very average coffee if that. The built in machines just look good, but the coffee does not compare to a dedicated standalone espresso machine. The built ins are also VERY expensive - they seem to range from $3500 and up which is outrageous compared to buying a proper standalone machine such as a Vibiemme or Giotto and a grinder. So if you love your coffee, I'd steer clear of anything automatic. But if you want a machine that looks good built into your kitchen, then they would suit you I guess. It all comes down to taste, or does it? fully agree with you. For the same price you can buy an outstanding Italian espresso machine.
