The improvement you get from a more expensive projector won't make up for the improvement in quality from a good screen. For instance, you could paint an area on the wall white: cost = tin of paint. But any PJ you buy will be completely wasted. A bad screen can make a good projector look bad, but a good screen at least won't make a projector look *worse*. Hi Thudd Absolutely take your point and agree, which is why I was after some advice/recommendations on screens! At the same time, I'm working to a fairly strict budget and in general trying to balance quality with value for money. For example, I won't be able to afford a $10k projector, so will shop around and see what I can find within my $3-4k budget. I've heard lots of good things about the OZTS screens, in terms of being good 'bang for the buck' - but with limited $$ it means I have to make a few decisions about how to split up the budget! In any case, if you have any more advice and particularly recommendations for screens/projectors in that sort of budget, please let me know! Quote: I'm pretty sure Selby Acoustics have a 133" 16:9 Deluxe fixed screen - which means it comes standard with black flocke velvet borders. Those screens are really good quality and a bargain for the $$ being asked. How far back are you going to be sitting? Rodda - only going to be sitting about 5m back....a 140" screen might be a bit big for some, but I've marked it out on the wall (in masking tape! ) and am very comfortable with the size:seating distance ratio....and it's also within the THX/SMPTE recommended range I realise i'm sort of working in reverse, but the next step will be finding a suitable projector to throw a 140" image from 5.3m....so again, any advice appreciated!! P.S. If anyone is in the market for a new big screen LCD TV and likes the new Sony Bravias...I got a pretty good deal the other day and happy to pass on details Re: 140" fixed projector screen (16:9) recommendations? 11Oct 27, 2010 11:26 am In my opinion and experience (I've installed many home cinemas and sat in even more), at 5m back, for me, 120" is a very good size and 133" would be the biggest I would want to go. I've been in a 4.8m long room with a 120" screen and it actually felt like it was bordering on too big. Also, you really, really should do some research on the projector you want before committing to a screen of that size becasue I can guarantee you for one thing a DLP projector will not be able to fill that screen from only 5m back (might not be a problem for many LCD projectors though)... and I for one am getting myself a DLP projector (again). At the end of the day, I think it comes down to what is comfortable and preferable for the main viewers. P.s. Looking at something like the JVC HD950 (D-ILA) which will throw a 140" picture from 5m without the slightest problem and is considered to be a pretty exceptional HT projector! Re: 140" fixed projector screen (16:9) recommendations? 13Oct 27, 2010 5:38 pm FYI I sit around 3.2m back from my 90" screen (similar viewing angle to what you are thinking of) and find it pretty much perfect. I must admit I was a bit worried that it was going to be too big but I find it perfect. Only problem is it is hard to watch a movie on the 50" plasma now because it looks so tiny! Re: 140" fixed projector screen (16:9) recommendations? 14Oct 28, 2010 10:52 am Thanks for all the feedback and advice guys! I've put an order in for a 140" 16:9 'Majestic' screen with fidelio velvet and evo3D fabric from OZTS...will hopefully arrive in about a week!! I'll let you know how it goes once I've had a chance to get it all set up!! Thanks again Adam Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense.
