We will be installing ducted vacuuming but wasn't sure whether having a vacpan also, was overkill. Well, the posts have convinced me - yup goin' with both. Why not make tedious chores a little easier to deal with ? VACPAN is a must with kids... Re: DUCTED VACUUMING AND VACPAN 12May 02, 2008 12:15 am Just wondering, how much does a ducted vacuum system cost? Equipment and installation. Is it worth having even if the only carpeted areas are the bedrooms and home theater room? Re: DUCTED VACUUMING AND VACPAN 13May 02, 2008 12:48 am Re: DUCTED VACUUMING AND VACPAN 14May 02, 2008 7:49 am We've been quoted by our builder $1800 for installatoin in a 34 sq house(5 beds u/stairs & 3 living d/stairs) - 5 outlets in the home plus 1 on the motor ( for cleaning the car) 3 HP/2200 watt motor. I've rung around a couple of suppliers & they have suggested $ 1800 is a bit steep.
These are 2 most important things to have , as told to me by the companies I spoke to : - bagless system - airwatt of between 550 & 600 for a 34 sq home Of course do your research & specify the model you want your builder to install. Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: DUCTED VACUUMING AND VACPAN 16May 02, 2008 11:42 am We have ducted vacuum and vacpan. I believe mine cost about $1100 - 1500, but our house is single level and about 170m2 living.
PS: your price seems to be reasonable, as it has 3 horsepower (mine is 2.5). do it now, as it may be costly afterwards. Re: DUCTED VACUUMING AND VACPAN 17May 02, 2008 12:59 pm Quote: Can it be installed after handover? Or does it need to be done before walls etc? It is a lot easier (and cheaper) to put the ducting in before the plaster goes up ... the unit and the outlets can be installed post handover. Builders usually charge around $1500 for a system with 3 points; extra points cost around $100-$150 each. If you have decent handyman skills, you might be able to buy the parts direct and do the installation yourself, provided you have a power point for the unit, and permission from the builder to put the ducting yourself before plaster. My wife works for a company which make these machines ... their website has a lot of information, pictures and even an installation manual http://www.auskay.com.au/index.php Re: DUCTED VACUUMING AND VACPAN 18May 02, 2008 1:10 pm Thanks to a helpful poster on this forum who has pointed out the benefits of ducted vacuum we have added this to our list of upgrades with PD
I didn't think of it originally as I wasn't sure it would do timber floors and if it would have enough suction, we were about to spend a good amount of money on a Dyson and figured this would be well worth it for $1500. Very excited to test it out! When we eventually start building that is Re: DUCTED VACUUMING AND VACPAN 20May 02, 2008 1:37 pm IMO about the same!
We also spent $100 on a turbo head (uses the suction to create the spinning action of a power head an dthe **** is sensatioal. I love it!
