Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our Retreat - New House Build 22Sep 29, 2010 11:02 am I liked that about it too, it's looks more interesting because of the texture and will hopefully look clean all the time, I notice you must have little ones, but even with teenage ones they still drag their feet everywhere leaving marks. which annoys me, so looking forward to the new. What a day in Melb it seems to be raining one minute then the sun comes out - I hope this does not interfere with the pour, they seemed to be half done by about 9.00am so hopefully this blast of sunshine lasts a few more hours until their finished. Bring on the next stage, we were told the gutters/fascia etc will be delivered early this week and then onto roof tiles. Site Start: 10th September, 2010 PCI : Friday 27th January, 2011. I drove past our block at 5.00pm last Wednesday night ater it had been raining all day in Melbourne and I saw a plumbing van - i got out as the guy was packing up and I asked if he was doing the gutters/fascia's and he said in this really strong irish accent that he was the plumber and he did the water and gas pipe rough ins, he was drenched and he had shorts on !!! - I told him to go home as he was going to get sick from working in the rain all day and he said he was as he had finished the job - what a trooper. On Thursday we had our gutters/fascia's put in. Drove past tonight (Friday) and the bricks were delivered - now let's see if I am like a lot of others and have to wait weeks for brickies. Stay Tuned. They are moving so quickly I dont even get a chance to post - will take some photo's if the rain stops in Melbourne and post on the weekend. Then we thought about it and decided with pets, flyscreen doors etc that it would be too hard, so we didnt go ahead with it - now we are sorry we didnt do it - it opened up the whole kitchen/dining/living areas to the outside. But oh well lesson learnt - I should have learnt this the first time around. Next time listen to myself and not let others talk you out of things. It still will be a great area even with the little column in there. Drove past the build this morning no brickies working. Site Start: 10th September, 2010 PCI : Friday 27th January, 2011. I was tempted to remove our column but for the same reason as you I didn't. I think it looks great to have it all completely open but not so practical. I have enough trouble keeping dogs out and kids in as it is LOL. Emma Building on an acre at Teviot Downs, Brisbane Building through Hallmark - Flair 253 with a few changes Mother of two gorgeous girls Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=37178 Re: Our Retreat - New House Build 37Oct 18, 2010 1:32 pm Thanks Emma, kids, dogs, mozzies, and the main thing that turned us off was a security thing, ppl said that the doors can be easily jemmied open. But as I tried to explain you cant have beauty and practicality - the two just dont mix I did have a chance to change again as we had to reduce our house a little in length to fit our block and I thought seeing as they were going to draw it up again we could do it but the price went up considerably, so then it was a case of no we cant afford it. I love your floor plan, it is gorgeous and so much room. Every kitchen needs a practical pantry Your sliding doors look great I love them Also, your colours sounds like they will blend together nicely. Enjoy the next step of your build Re: Our Retreat - New House Build 39Oct 18, 2010 1:58 pm Thanks Cooped for your comments, yes I hope I will be pleased when the colours start coming together, so far the gutters and fascias in Monument look good - just have to wait for the roof tiles and bricks to see if we are happy - my DD and I picked the colours, DH didnt stand a chance with 2 girls, he wanted to go paperbark etc, but we have that now and we are sick of it, so I decided to go something completely different and if I dont like it I will blame it on my DD I pinched a little bit of room from the hallway for the pantry - that's exactly what I thought - you can never have a big enough pantry.
