I wish we could have afforded real timber boards, but then we wouldn't have window coverings or a driveway. Sometimes you've got to compromise.
We will have real timber and no window coverings or driveway

I don't know how you find the time! I still haven't touched my pine shelf after I undercoated it months ago, but once the kids go back to school and the weather warms up I'll be stuck in the garage! How do I find the time? Let's see... can you say O.B.S.E.S.S.I.V.E? No housework has been done - except for the jobs I made the kids do - and if my husband didn't cook we'd have been eating sandwiches for the past three weeks. Or takeaway. I have managed to find time to have a shower daily, sometimes I even comb my hair, and the pile of washing in the laundry isn't quite up to the ceiling yet, so I'd say I have everything under control. I've learned a few things though: 1. If you're stripping paint, buy plenty of throw-away plastic dropsheets and save every newspaper you can find. And those boxes of 100 disposable gloves. You go through way more than you think you will. 2. Wear a proper dust mask when sanding old furniture. Otherwise you get to deal with headaches, asthma and constant sneezing, and lie awake because your swollen nasal passages won't let you breathe. 3. Be prepared for your muscles to be very unhappy with you after a weekend of sanding and painting. Stock up on Epsom salts (for the bath) and wine. I've stopped work temporarily because I can't unscrew the damn cupboard door. Might have to wait for my other half to get home. Re: Never pass up a bargain 96Sep 28, 2010 5:37 pm kek I had a win though - I was outbid a few weeks ago on an Edwardian pot cupboard. But this morning there was a message in my inbox with a second chance offer. It seems the winning bidder hadn't bothered to make contact with the seller. So I jumped in the car and collected my prize before lunch. Which is why I was in Kew. Of course, it's a bit of a mess - it's been painted white....pale pink....blue....purple and then had silver leaf applied all over. Where's our 'before' pic kek? Some options: strike the screwdriver with a hammer, try tightening a little to create some movement, put a soldering iron on the screw (heat will expand it and also melt any paint that might be adhered to the screw) or... wait for the other half to get home .... Thanks for the tips. I got three out, the other isn't budging. I had to knock off for the day anyway, I've had it. That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 17879 |
