In saying that, I don't much like the look of it and would go granite over it any day if you can find a specific granite you fall in love with. I'm not a granite fan but i've found a couple that don't look like cafe table tops and i've fallen in love with them for my own kitchen (over caesar/essa stone). I'll take the higher maintenance because the depth in it when you see it in kitchen or full slab form is just stunning. I keep wanting to stroke it because it just doesn't look possible that it is smooth. I've not had either but I would most likely be more careful with Granite as I get the impression it requires a little more caution than Corian. Correct me if i'm wrong... i'm far from educated in this department. Just going on what i've read and heard. Re: Granite Vs Corian Benchtop? 5Sep 26, 2010 8:45 pm Ah Ha, ours has been sealed once but really is due to be done again. Will be second time in 1 1/2 yrs,all you do is simply wipe the sealer over, its quite thin. Must be honest though in that i am careful that i put anything hot on a teatowel first & not straight on the bench but really thats something i would do with any top. I love the stuff & yes i run my hands over it all the time ,so does anyone that visits, its a "WOW" CHEERS Block bought 1st RBC X! 2nd Ventrua,Keeper! We originally did not want it, but it was standard with our builder too and cost an arm and a leg to change. We have a waterfall drop at one end and you can not see any joins. It;'s so easy to clean, doesn't mark half as bad as what people had said, and looks fantastic. Both my husband and I have said that we are so glad we actually had the corian, love the clean lines with "seamless" joins. We have a long bench in our bathroom too. I will attached a link to our build thread where I have posted some photos. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=31932 Re: Granite Vs Corian Benchtop? 9Sep 29, 2010 9:43 am Who said engineered stone is more hard wearing. These types of benchtops are just bits of stone stuck together with glues and resin. If you damage your granite for any reason ,scratches, hot frypans etc guess what, you can polish the marks right out. Try doing that with your glue benchtops. You only need to clean with an abrasive like Ajax and the top is compromised. Granite is my choice by far for a working kitchen benchtop where chopping, baking, water and wiping are the norm. Use the other stuff for bathrooms and l'dry. My favoutire is Juperana Luna Re: Granite Vs Corian Benchtop? 10Sep 29, 2010 9:55 am How do you compromise a bench top that is of the one material all the way through? You don't seal corian, it's corian all the way through, and I would hazard to guess that it's much easier to polish or clean up scratches rather than a sealed granite surface. Which I am guessing again would need to be re-sealed once damaged. I like granite, lighter coloured. My parents have a massive expanse of black granite and they rue the day they had it installed, it's hard to clean (due to colour), but that is neither here nor there as it's just aesthetics. What I don't like about it is the joins and the feel. Personal preference is what it comes down to. Re: Granite Vs Corian Benchtop? 11Sep 29, 2010 9:58 am I had Granite in my last house and there was hardly any upkeep. We had it sealed again after 5 years and when we sold after 13 years it was still perfect. I also used to put hot pans on it no marks to be seen. I wanted something white this time so went with CS. 0 9761 Hi Courtney The mitred edges are glued up with epoxy so those little holes and gaps are areas that weren't filled correctly. Silicone is the wrong product to fill them… 2 12900 |
