Looking good Re: Boral Blackheath: UPDATE 6: Page 4 - BRICKS!! 75Sep 21, 2010 6:59 pm Hi Wizard, good to see Porter Davis have done the right thing. I am also building in Tarneit with Porter Davis, at about the same stage as you but my house is currently two different colours, how crap is that!! Here's an uncleaned pic to show just how crap, notice the top half is a different colour to the bottom half and the mortar is full of holes so I am not happy! They are still thinking about what to do about it, I hope they hurry up, the whole thing is making me feel sick. How is yours going along? How long did it take between you complaining to them doing something about it? Re: Boral Blackheath: UPDATE 6: Page 4 - BRICKS!! 76Sep 22, 2010 8:19 am Hi Fallen_Apple, are you building PD Lifestyle? When we complained about our bricks, it took PD about a week to tell us that the bricks were not up to standard, then about another week to lets us know our options. Once we decided to have the bricks re-done, it was another 2 weeks before they started ripping them down, then about another week before they started bricking. All in all, the issue is probably going to cost us about a month and a half delay, we would have been about a week or two from PCI, now we are at least a month and a half away. I guess it’s a small price to pay, especially after seeing how they look now, it is a huge improvement How long has it been since you complained and what resolution are you wanting? We're already 5 weeks behind because they couldn't find brickies, the whole brick thing has turned into a nightmare! I complained Monday, the construction manager and a boral rep went out to the site yesterday and they have agreed there is a major problem. At this point they have said to wait a few days for the bricks to dry thoroughly then they will get back to me. They have suggested dying the bricks but I don't think that is a permanent solution to such a major problem, what if it starts to fade in 5/10 years? Also on the sample buildings on the Nawkaw website that they have restored it is quite obvious where the dying has been done and looks pretty ordinary. It might be alright for a few bricks, but not half a house. At this point i would expect either a rebrick or full render, can't decide which though. The time constraints are a big issue as you highlighted, but we loved the brick and all of our colour schemes were based on the brick. It is great they were willing to redo your house, the brick work looks so much better this time around. A house near ours built by 5immonds had similar problems to yours and they refused to do anything about it. I think Porter Davis are trying to make boral accept liability for my problem as the bricks were delivered in 3 lots and clearly they are from different batches. In the end though we will not be accepting the house in current form as it is extremely ugly. Re: Boral Blackheath: UPDATE 6: Page 4 - BRICKS!! 78Sep 22, 2010 9:51 am Yeah I wouldn’t accept it either, well lets hope they work something out that satisfies you and quickly. I can see how PD would be putting the blame on Boral, but then again, it depends on how PD ordered them, if they were all ordered at the same time then Boral should have gotten all the bricks from the same batch, but if PD put in 3 orders then it’s a PD issue. Keep us posted on how it all goes Current status: Busy making the house our home Built PD Francis 29 on our 576m2 block at Reflections in Tarneit Reflections Estate Thread Our Build Thread Re: Boral Blackheath: UPDATE 6: Page 4 - BRICKS!! 79Sep 22, 2010 10:36 pm Hi Fallen_Apple. Can I say that if sticking with bricks and getting them fixed is an option, go with that. In FNQ it is ALL rendered. NO new homes are bricked or anything else and it looks like lego-land. Bricks are beautiful (when they haven't been stuffed up). There were a lot of people at the site this morning, including the original bricklayer. Hopefully they can come to some decisions about how to rectify the issues. Thanks for the suggestion Raleighfarm, luckily where we are render is used sparingly, so if we went for a full render we would be the odd ones out! Still waiting to get PD's verdict on what to do, I wish they would hurry up. I have stone pavement (?) in my backyard around the pool. I have not tended to them and so there is moss growing on them.
