Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Sep 14, 2010 10:46 am I have one of the common dome type skylights, about 10 years old, which leaks slightly in heavy rain. The perspex dome seems perfectly sound, so the water must be leaking in round the base somewhere. I have been up there and resiliconed everything I could see but this has not fixed the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions of something I could apply to seal this? The wet season is coming and I would prefer not to spend my summer with water dripping into my kitchen. Re: Leaking skylight 2Sep 14, 2010 10:49 am In view of the fact that you have tried re-siliconing it and it has still leaked, perhaps its a good time to get a professional, who, whilst charging you fair bit of money, would also ensure that this problem is fixed. The last thing I would want personally, is a leaking roof/skylight and that too in the wet season. Suburbia is where the developer bulldozes out the trees, then names the streets after them. I had a builder install a domed skylight into my metal roof...it leaked and he re-siliconed it...it still leaked...8 months later another builder re-flashed it...it still drips 2 years later...I think only a roofer would really know how to install a skylight properly...a recent builder advised me to get professional skylighting companies to do the work...they will guarantee their products...some builders may be very skilled but when it comes to roofs some of them will just say they're not confident with skylights and will subcontract the job.
