Anyone else building the Cayman?
Hi. First post...
I'm about to embark on building my first house. We've chosen the PD Cayman, which is a pretty nice design, and suits our block / location. We are still to demolish the existing house, and so we're some way off starting. I hope to see some news on your Cayman - it will be nice to bounce ideas around. I've sketched up an electrical plan (generously, PD allow one double GPO per room, 2 antenna points and a battern light fixture!!!). From what I've read here already, lighting could be one of the biggest "unforeseen" items.
I'm guessing site costs may also go above the estimate - I need to build on the site where an old house was removed. Fortunately, PD will include an H Class slab in their extended promotion - this is actually one of the really good prmos that's around at the moment. They also extended the choose any 2 of 3 to allow all three of carpets, aircon and kitchen upgrade. Sure, these costs are factored in, but if we'd signed up a month earlier, then we'd have got only two of the options, and M class slab as standard, so the timing is right for me.
We've sorted out most of the other options and selections - although we are yet to do the formal colour / interior / carpet / tile selection with Hopetoun. Can't wait for that (???)
I understand that the brick selections on offer will be from the Austral range - can anyone advise what bricks are available in the standard CAT1? Similar for roof tiles and floor tiles? I know I'll find this out for myself sooner or later, but if anyone is able to help with identifying some of the standard ranges I'd be happy. Similar for things like toilets - in my current house we replaced all of the toilets because the builder used plastic cisterns. The new toilets were from Big Hen plumbing, and frankly only cost about $80 more per unit than the ones I threw out. They are quite a bit more stylish (although functionally, no different!!!).
Anyway, I'll read up on all of the other PD experiences posted here as well -thanks for sharing to all.
Cheers all.
