Hey fellow dream builders

Hi
I am very glad to have stumbled in on this site.. I can see it becoming my new home.

I live west of Brisbane ( in Ipswich) with my husband and 5 kids ( aged 7 - 19).
We have bought established houses previously but cant seem to find the 'right' one, so we have sold them, and are now renting. We have bought 10 acres at Coominya, (past Wivenhoe Dam), and hoping to build in 6-12 months.
We are spending our weekends, one week exploring display homes (still unsure of design), next week mowing the block ( and boy is that a big job!!!). We are thinking of going through a local builder that my sister built with, called G & P Builders. Anyone heard of them, or built with them????
I look forward to getting to know you all, and following the building of your dream homes,

This is a great site. Ive learnt so much and it is very exciting watching others progress.

Cant wait to see what you will do with 10 acres (you have a big enough block to make your WIR a whole wing!!)

We are starting to get pretty excited, but we know it will be quite some time yet before anything begins..
A whole wing??? I bet I could fill it too!! lol We will be trying to keep the house as small as possible, as we live in the dream that one day, the kids WILL decide to move out

Are you hoping to have livestock as well?

Hey, I've been their (the dam) for work inspecting the spillway gates (exciting life I lead...) nice part of the world....Congratulations!

We have just got back from looking a some displays, but the one we like, has $170 , 000 worth of extras in it.. When I asked what is extras, the sales rep said he would have to spend 2-3hours with us to tell us all of it.. Why dont they make displays as standard so you know what u are getting for the price

Probably because the display as every single inclusion under the sun in it so that it looks super jazzed. And then when you work out what you don't want it gets very hard to visualise what it might look like.

Had the same experience with a Melbourne builder when we were looking at building....gave us a basic price, told us what the extra's where on the display and when we added up the base + extras we came to a lower figure, said that wasn't how you worked it out

, but spend a couple of hours with me and we'll sort it through...eh...couldn't be bothered.

But if it's the house you really want then why not spend the time...you can always walk away.....

Good thinking.. but not set on any design yet.. Actually , we are starting to think about doing a kit home... PAAL. Has anyone had experience with them? Wondering how hard it is to get finance for owner builder. We do have someone that is willing to 'lend' us their building licence ( he will supervise, but as he is older gentleman would rather not build) if we need to. Not even sure if that is legal

, but i think it would save us alot of money. My husband is a concretor, who is very handy at tiling, painting etc , my BIL an electrician, and another BIL who is carpet layer. If we find it isnt legal, we have a local builder that my sister built through, that we could get prices for them to build.. not sure if it would work out any cheaper, but we could get things we otherwise couldnt afford. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

There's a few people on this forum who have been owner builder's or have investigated the process...try a search and/or maybe a new post to attract people's attention.

an update. ..
We have totally gone off the idea of a kit home, and have now found a builder (and a plan that we LOVE!

).
I haven't heard much about the builder, (not that I have heard much about ANY builder!

), so am wondering if anyone here has had any dealings with them?
The builder is NEWSTART HOMES. I will post a pic of the plan, once I get to work and can scan it.
I am really enjoying following everyones adventures! So many houses almost complete now!! YAYY for you guys.

With the size of property, number of kids, and location are you going with the "Homestead"?.... :wink:

Always wanted a house like that....on the right country acreage.

You are quite right Mike. We are going with Homestead 37, only have basically mirrored the bottom half and made a few changes in other places. Will show you plan tomorrow.
Have you heard anything (neg/pos) about this builder??
