Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Porter Davis homes 234Aug 31, 2010 10:36 am We had site scrape for our house in July, I spoke to our SS today and we're up to painting. Cabinetry is in, bricks have been cleaned. Thinks painting should be done by end of next week.
We've really had a dream run so far. Great SS, nothing has gone wrong (bar a contractual miscommunication that went in our favour re: cupboard doors). I really cannot recommend PD highly enough. I am loving the experience so far. Re: Porter Davis homes 236Aug 31, 2010 11:31 am cjm Our slab went down end of May ... still not at lock-up ... Oh no I think I'd be beside myself. Is it the brick shortage (and brickie shortage apparently)? Our SS was really pleased about getting a brickie pretty much smack bang on when we needed him. Plus we didn't have any problems with Boral. Re: Porter Davis homes 237Aug 31, 2010 11:38 am With PD, there is a vast difference between different range of homes you build. We went in with recommendations from those who had built under Lifestyle range ... we built under access range, and found the difference... not a pleasant one. Question for kek re flooring 238Aug 31, 2010 12:39 pm Lex kek We used an Armstrong product (can't recall the name now), bought it from a clearance place in Thomastown for just under $2000 - all 100 square metres of it. That included the underlay. We paid 50% and had them hold it for us until after handover - they ended up minding it for us for about five months. Then we asked our carpet guys to recommend someone to lay it for us, and that cost another $2000. It took them four days to lay it....better their knees than ours! The colour is "cherry" something...it's a close match to Tassie Oak, which is what we wanted. It's nowhere near as red as it looks in these photos, although it does have a pink undertone: ... Kek, can't remember if I asked you this before (and you obviously don't remember the product line name of your Armstrong floor, so no use I guess asking you for that), but can you at least say is this a timber veneer floor, or a vinyl floor? Also, it looks like these are either short length single-plank, or maybe 2- or 3-plank boards? Did they coat it after installation, or is it still just pre-finished (no furhter coatings)? Does it scratch easily? Any weird (drummy?) sounds when walking? Cheers Hi Kek, just came across this post, I am trying to get flooring organised or at least decide what we want, can you please pm me the flooring clearance place in Thomastown you used. To answer your question, it all depends where you are in the process. From deposit to site start date, it's usually about 6 weeks - 10 weeks by the time you make all your selections, sign your contracts etc.. Then its approximately 20 weeks (on a standard house plan with no changes) from the date construction begins. PD build times are in accordance with the HIA building contract and is guaranteed at 20 weeks for a standard single storey house plan. Please keep in mind that these things that can affect the length of the construction period so when we say 'guarantee' this is based on everything that it is in our control: * public holidays * bad weather * land availability * the complexity, size and inclusions you choose * Whether your land is settled and ready to build on This is our procedure of purchase which may help you http://www.porterdavis.com.au/content/o ... rchase.pdf You can also contact your CSA to follow up on the start date if you're still unsure. Good luck with your build! Cheers Jess Porter Davis Homes Questions? Currently waiting for building approval to come through. The CS said site start will be on first week of Sep. I wanted to know how long does PD takes to build a single storey house. Fingers crossed am hoping to move to the house before x-mas..not sure if thts too much to hope for /quote] Hi Lal, This should be noted in your contract how many days are allocated for your building including holidays/weekends/ wet weather days I'm building a 22 sq in Wyndham vale and I have 176 days in my contract (but that includes the Xmas break) Hi Victoria_g06, From what i heard PD usually finishes before the scheduled time...not sure though.... Well that will be awesome, but I will still have to wait in the xmas break Three options 1 Ask the liquidator 2 Find another PD customer and ask the source of their report 3 Pay for new report 3 12345 Ask for references and speak to them.
