It's a great idea for someone wanting a DIY retaining wall. Below are 2 pics of a house I went in to recently. We would like to do something similar in our backyard (although have a shorter wall). I think it's really effective as a feature. I have colour-bond fencing which I then want to put in front the "stacker stone feature wall" (section 2m high, 3 metre wide). So what is durable (ie for outdoor), takes the weight of the stacker stone, and should it be attached to the colour-bond fence. I have rung James Hardie and they said that their products are not for outdoor. Any ideas ? If not, then could you please give me the name of the "display home" where you took the photos and perhaps I can enquire there. Thank-you ! Re: Stacker stone retaining walls 15Aug 12, 2010 12:16 pm Xquisite, according to the website, their retaining wall block system starts at $165 psm. Hopefully it doesnt cost much more than that. I will give them a call and ask soon for the exact price of what i want. Ita0001, does James Hardie sell those stacker stone veneers? I've spoken to a few stone places which stock them and they say that its perfectly fine outdoors. I think TJ Imports are a wholesaler so they sell their stock for alot less than other retailers. Its worthwhile to give them a call and ask question. Rowena, that does look really nice. I want to build something like that as well in my backyard someday. Unfortunately for me TJ Imports is in Melbourne, I'm in Sydney. I already have the stacker stone, I just want to know the right material to "stick" it on, that is for weight and outdoors. Cheers... Re: Stacker stone retaining walls 17Aug 12, 2010 2:13 pm I have done a little bit of research into building stacker stone freestanding walls as feature walls. I think, and correct me if i'm wrong, most people build the frame with treated pine, then stick blueboard or villaboard onto the frame to make the wall. Then they use adhesive to stick the stones onto the boards. But make sure you waterproof the boards before sticking the stones on. Call any place that sells stack stone veneers and they will be able to direct into the methods used. They would know what works with their veneers. Good luck.
