Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Ceiling Height - Opinions? 34Aug 05, 2010 3:25 pm Thanks donuts Hmmm why did I not increase door height.... I guess I didn't really think about it. I've grown up in an old house with high ceilings and standard doors so it looks right to me. I don't dislike higher doors - I think its a good look in a really modern home - but I think the high ceiling/standard door combo will suit the strange medley (an underused word ) of old/new in my house. Re: Ceiling Height - Opinions? 35Aug 05, 2010 9:13 pm Yes, Im with you steg - we chose to leave doors/windows as standard after liveing in old house with 9 ft ceilings (modern 2700) and normal size doors and looked fine to us. That was our choice,; we didnt just overlook upsizing them. I dont dislike the upsized ones, can certainly suit a very modern house - which ours is not, it is in fact a very traditional style and I think the traditional combination of higher ceilings/standard doors suits it better. But we still have wardrobes and linen cupboards going to full height, so we're not missing out on storage space Re bulkheads, I dont think I have any - well, just the ones above the kitchen cupboards, is that what you mean?, and there is actually a high archway from hallway into kitchen/family area so that is at bulkhead height anyway. I hope Im not contradicting myself by saying that - this decorative archway is only higher doorway feature, photo below,(obviously from before we hung our pictures up ) as you can see our house is anything but ultra modern Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I think Im waffling on now , past my 2c quota Re: Ceiling Height - Opinions? 38Aug 05, 2010 10:37 pm Lunchtime we went for the 2590 hight - couldnt see the value in another 11cm to upgrade to the 2700 *thats all it is* You'd be surprised at how much a difference it can make though I thought the same until we went with the higher ceilings in our last place and it made a huge difference to the openess. Re: Ceiling Height - Opinions? 39Aug 05, 2010 11:27 pm We have std doors - like the contrast really, so didnt really see the need for the larger doors. Only have three downstairs anyway as most is open plan. Re: Ceiling Height - Opinions? 40Aug 05, 2010 11:34 pm I've gone for 2700 high ceilings. I will also have some ceiling fans. If you'r having (or planning) ceiling fans, the 2700 is even more important. Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Thank you @ashington Homes for your reply! They just got back to me and offered credit for me to just take it as is. It was a less than quotes I got from ceiling… 6 1592 ok thanks - yes was wondering if that should have been listed as Option Three! 2 7952 I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says.
