Outside of Paris, just about everything closes between about 1 and 3. Shop assistants go to work serving lunch in the cafe around the corner. It's very frustrating if you are hardcore shopping, but a good excuse to have a long, boozy lunch. Re: Help me decide - French recipes 176Jul 14, 2010 8:05 pm Damn, I forgot all about Bastille Day! We've just had dinner, decidedly non-French sausages in onion gravy and garlic mash (but yummy on a cold, wet day). But I don't think it is too late to open a bottle of wine. For those that aren't watching le Tour de France Cadel Evans on Sunday had a fall 7km into the stage, he ended the day in the yellow leaders jersey. Monday was a rest day and Tuesday he stepped up and raced again but lost a lot of time in the hills and lost hte yellow jersey - he now has no chance of winning The reason for the unusual form last night? Well it turns out he broke his elbow in the crash on Sunday and yet he is still racing!! Amazing!!! This now makes Adam Hanson who rode 200km+ with a broken sternum and ribs, Simon Gerrans who rode with a broken wrist and now Cadel - tough men I tells ya! I was wondering as today is Bastille Day, what is on the menu tonight? Thanks AJV!! I don't actually have much planned for today, although I am thinking of a nice bottle of French Champagne and some cheese (it could end badly) I'm having a French Dinner party on Saturday night - some people needed to work tomorrow otherwise it would have been tonight Was the French champange and cheese nice? Did you need some Vitamin B to get you going? Re: Help me decide - French recipes 180Jul 15, 2010 9:25 am The champers and cheese was very nice I also finished it off with some red wine Needless to say, I didn't make the end of the racing last night but the racing was also kinda boring as the peloton was having an active rest day (where they all just mosey along basically) I'm watching it now though 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.'
