Though looking through each isps threads in teh isp/broadband section once you've narrowed down your choices with the Bc provider keys will be useful. Your not in WA so I can only suggest 2 isps I know that are now Aus based. Amcom ( amnet) Iinet No idea what they are like over your way here they are my first 2 picks. Re: Internet Provider 4Jul 12, 2010 7:44 pm Whirlpool is a great forum for all things broadband & IT related. Probably the best ISP for technical reasons & customer satisfaction is Internode. They are very large now but the CEO still personally answers people's queries & concerns in the forums - a very passionate person. Other great ISPs are iiNet, Adam & Westnet. Netspace are good as well, but iiNet have recently bought them. Some of the others are price driven but the performance suffers - I'd avoid TPG, AAnet, Exetel & any of the really small ISPs (especially Spin/Comcen, Amnet, Dodo & People Tel). Although it's good to support small business, there are far too many ISPs in Australia & rationalisation is slowly taking place. Re: Internet Provider 5Jul 12, 2010 8:24 pm thanks! I spoke to westnet who are my provider now and they said that the terminal in my new area is full (adsl2) and they cant connect me to a port?? westnet are owned by iinet. so i guess im going to have to go for ADSL 1, hope its not too slow!! For downloading, I don't think anything beyond 1.5 MBit will make a difference, unless you like to download DVD quality movies daily. 1.5 Mbit can get you the latest episode of True Blood in 1 hour. It's uploading where I notice the speed more. A slower connection can take 30 minutes to upload a set of photos to facebook, even after reducing the quality. The annoying thing there is that the receiving website can sometimes time out and you have to start the whole process again. And browsing speed will often slow down while you are uploading. Re: Internet Provider 11Jul 14, 2010 8:29 pm We are with Bigpond, but hoping to go with anyone other than them really. We live in a built up surburbian area until our house is finished, and our service is terrible for ADSL2+ and we pay through the nose for it. It's barely at half the speed we pay for, it's not worth the upgrade. TPG seem really great value for money. Not sure what they are like though. Dear J.K. Although I'm only on ADSL 1 as my local exchange isn't ADSL 2 equipped. I'm on a $60/month plan with 30GB peak download allowance and unlimited off-peak. Speed is pretty good for 1500/256 which is probably aided by the fact that the exchange is less than 250m away Re: Internet Provider 13Jul 14, 2010 8:47 pm Hi We are actually with TPG - have had noo complaints at all! Very good service and excellent price - we pay $49.95 per month and get 130 GB downloads!!!! We will have them in the new place as well....cannot recommend them highly enough! There's a reason they are #1 on the best provider..... http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/ http://www.internode.on.net/ Re: Internet Provider 15Jul 14, 2010 9:59 pm sara.alag Hi We are actually with TPG - have had noo complaints at all! Cheers S I also use TPG and more than happy with them. (although I have only had to use their tech support when I first got broadband and never needed to talk to them since) If your reasonably tech savvy, they offer great value Re: Internet Provider 16Jul 14, 2010 11:55 pm wow thanks for all your replys! not sure where we are at. I spoke to our neighbour and they said telestra doesnt even have a terminal yet so they cant even set up the home phone lines!! When we first moved in to our shed we were told it had phone line going to it, and well it did but we then found out the last 17m or something hand't been dug and connected to the telstra box! Took ages to get it connected (and we did the digging ourselves). Hopefully you've got mobile coverage at least. If you can't get broadband where you are and it doesn't seem likely in the future then check out the Aus Broadband Guarantee website, you'd probably qualify to get satellite broadband installed. We've just canned our landline today (becaue it was dead for the last week) and decided to use mobiles and also skype via the sat broadband connection for phone calls. I spoke to our neighbour and they said telestra doesnt even have a terminal yet so they cant even set up the home phone lines!! I forgot to mention earlier the most important thing you will ever here... DO NOT..... I repeat.... DO NOT sign up with Telstra!!!! They are criminal in pricing, their service and their respect for their customers.... Re: Internet Provider 19Jul 15, 2010 3:19 pm on the plus side, telstra own the infrastructure, so if something breaks you don't have to listen to people saying "oh, we can't do anything, we'll have to contact telstra, and we don't know how long they'll take..."
