Pot drawers

Hi all

Has anyone requested pot drawers in their kitchen? I have, but I am wondering if it needs to be in the tender. I paid for an extension of my kitchen bench extra but it isnt in the tender. It is however, in the kitchen sketch that we did at colour selection.

Does anyone have them and find them really useful?

p.s please excuse the ignorance but I have searched for an existing thread on this and cant find one. Let me know if one does exist though so I can use that one instead.

Pot drawers are the best thing ever. Kitchen cupboards are evil little things with old tupperware hiding in the back corners you cannot see.
I would suggest trying to get as many drawers over cupboards as possible.
We have even converted cupboards to drawers. 1 for plates and stuff, 1 for evil tupperware and 1 for pots.

Thanks that's so useful! I'm glad to hear how useful they are! I got a lot of them so i'm glad. I just thought sometimes good old cubpoards for plates and bowls, but most other things for pot drawers. I prefer the look of them too!

In my original kitchen plan I only had pot drawers under my wall oven, but after meeting with the cabinet maker he talked me into getting more drawers. I was a little unsure- but the more I think about it, I think they will be a great idea! We'll see when I finally get to move in and try them!

I changed all my cupboards to drawers too.

Wow they look gorgeous! Yes lots of people are doing that. It looks like you have SO much storage!! That's fabulous. My island is just over 3.5m long and it has all drawers (mostly pot drawers some slimmer), the other side where oven is, they are all cubpoards

But I do think I will find some of those useful, being in the position they are. I have a galley style kitchen.

The best thing about drawers is you can pull them all the way out and see everything in there.
I'm sure I have crap at the back of some of our cupboards that I put there when we moved in and has not been touched since. I have probably even bought replacements for them.
The thing I hate the worst is bloody corner cupboards. I love the idea of having a drawer on the other side of the bench (if possible).

I love my pot drawers - I have 2 banks of them. One set I use for cooking stuff (shallower drawer on top for utensils and then 2 deep drawers) and the others I use for glassware (in top thin drawer) and then bowls and plates in the other 2. So much easier to put everything away!

ha, agreed! I love that our kitchen doesn't have any corner cubpoards because its galley style (2 parallel lines). Glad to hear the pot drawers are such a hit!

wow!! Love the photos of the pot drawers.

Our pre start lady recommended us getting pot drawers on either side of the oven. I must say that although i cant use them yet, i do love the look of them.

Agree with the advice to get as many pot drawers as possible instead of cupboards. We changed as many as we could, and weren't charged any extra.

Corner cupboards are horrible, but unless you pay heaps to get some fancy designed angled drawers what other option hav you got for corners?

I was just wondering the same thing. I have all drawers except for under the kitchen sink and then one corner cupboard. I have no idea what's going to go in the corner though... nor any clue as to how to make it easier to get to the stuff that does end up in there.

Piper+1 I've ended up putting some rarely-used baking trays, cake platters, stuff like that I keep in their boxes so it's easy to stack, at the very back of the corner cupboard. nearer to the front and under the sink is cleaning cloths and doing-dishes-type stuff.

For corner cupboards, if the other side does not face a wall you can have a drawer around the other side.

on the other side near the sliding glass door there would be drawers facing back into the kitchen.

edit: and another thought, you could have an open wine rack thing there or a place to put the phone books or cook books.

We love drawers having them on both sides of our island and near our stove too.

Our kitchen place only does them in standard widths like 300mm, 600mm,900mm, 1000mm, so we adjusted our island size to accomodate. It helps if you can have a cupboard or fridge hole in the line for the left over width. Eg our fridge hole was 1m but once we put in the drawers on that wall we have a wierd amount left over, like 96mm, we couldnt do anything with so this goes into the fridge hole to make it bigger now 1096mm. We did the same with the under sink cupboards on the back of the island.

I did comment that people will look at our kitchen in 10 years and say "What's with all the drawers?"

The island bench in our new house to be is an L shape and we are having a cupboard door on the back so we can have easy access to the back of the corner. We have a corner cupboard here at present and it is hard to get at items at the back. Rarely used items but needed now and again.
I also agree on the pot drawers. We are having 2 banks of 4, 1 bank of 3 and 2 more under the oven so total 13 drawers. Wow I hadn't added them up before now. And then cupboards under island bench.

We have 12 pot drawers + cutlery drawers on the other side & I love them. We dealt directly with the kitchen company for any changes & paid them for the extra costs so no builders mark up.
I have non slip liners in my drawers. . .we worked how much we needed & purchased the material from Clark Rubber & cut it to size, Worked out heaps cheaper than from places like Howards storage.

We have pot drawers in our kitchen and although we haven't used them as yet, we're certainly looking forward to them. They seem like they're going to be very practical.

I agree, drawers are the way to go. We have 23 drawers and only about 6 or 7 cupboards all in the overheads, you can see one bank below,

One thing I would say is make sure you have a variety of drawers sizes because deep drawers for lowliying items is as much a waste of sapce as cupboards.

I wish I had lots of pot drawers. When we built last time the standard display homes didn't tend to have even one set, only upmarket homes. I had one set put in. When we were building this time I considered getting heaps of them but thought they were a bit of an extravagance. Didn't realise that they were becoming such a standard item and felt silly when I considered it. ( I just thought it would be a great idea) Then I saw how many others were getting them here but it was too late to change the contract. sigh. one day I'll swap some of my cupboards for more pot drawers.
