Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jun 15, 2010 2:37 pm Hi people im just about to start building with national builders group they have done my estimation quote and of course it is higher then me and my fiance expected, anyway we asked for a combined air con and heater system and we were quoted $15,360 for a Bonaire Vulcan V4 301 Gas ducted heating with BO15 single phase refridgerated cooling im just wonering if anyone knows if this price is a joke or anything they would recommend? thanks Re: i have been priced for refridgerated air con "oh my god" 2Jun 15, 2010 3:13 pm should have been no more than $11k for complete install. Should be less for upgrade For 12-13K you could get a Brivis 5.8star heater (30kwatts) with 15Kwatt single phase cooling or 18Kwatt (three phase) aircond with about 15 vents and 2/3 zones. Re: i have been priced for refridgerated air con "oh my god" 3Jun 15, 2010 3:22 pm Have they credited you for the standard heating and evap air cooling that they include at the moment? Me and my fiance hear bad feedback with evap cooling anyone have it is it that bad? Re: i have been priced for refridgerated air con "oh my god" 5Jun 15, 2010 7:29 pm It should show on the quote if they have applied the credit. Another thing to consider is you can leave doors/windows open with Evap Cooling, which I personally like, dont have to close up the house like you do with refrigerated. You open a window in most rooms, leave most internal doors open and it works a treat unless it's a horribly humid day - and we really don't get that many of those. I would never even consider switching to refrigerated, mainly because of the running costs - and it's only going to get worse with power costs escalating at a frightening rate. Plus there's the environmental impact to consider... If your house is well designed, with orientation, shading, window placement for cross-ventilation, insulation and so on, you should get away with minimal use anyway. In our old place, we ran the cooling for far more hours per day than we do here, because this house stays naturally cooler anyway, thanks to the 5-star rating design features. Re: i have been priced for refridgerated air con "oh my god" 9Jun 26, 2010 6:30 am Personally prefer air conditioner. In regards to the price, usually what happens is that they need to obtain the AC as a single order which means they money they pay may not be that significantly cheaper compared to when buying in bulks. So they are charging you 20-30% x the cost of getting it, storing, delivering and installing it. That is why bigger builders can afford to give us so many "free" extras.. but once you ask for something that htey dont stock... "wham!!" get ready to take the punch. Re: i have been priced for refridgerated air con "oh my god" 10Jun 26, 2010 10:52 am I would consider a split system air conditioner also, just in the rooms you will be spending the most time in. We have one for our kitchen/living/meals area, was only a couple thousand dollars to buy and get installed. Your house is 23 squares? so you probably have one main living/eating area like us I am guessing. We have ceiling fans throughout but you could just get them in the rooms which won't have the AC (probably about $1000 all up to buy & install), personally I don't like AC in the bedrooms anyway. With a split system and some fans you have the ability to open up the house for a cool breeze when it's not THAT hot and you are looked after on the REALLY hot days too. Perfect! Hi guys, I'm trying to fix the window sill in the bathroom but upon pricing for some paint, primarily Bunnings, my lord it's quite expensive. And is it possible to disconnect the duct joined to the vent from inside the house, without going into the roof cavity? 0 6559 Hi all, sorting out the ducted air con for a 350sqm double story house. Does this placement sound reasonable to you? Also, I plan to have 6 zones I think. Living room… 0 0 |
