Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 21, 2010 7:45 pm Howdy I have been getting prices for building a new home. And i signed a piece of paper to get one builder to measure the block , contour , engineer , check with council , and draw it to my design , but in the fine print it said "blahblahbuilders will own the plan". Does that mean if i dont sign with them to build it , i cant build my house with another builder coz they own the plan now? its 100% my design after all. have I been duped or .... what ? thanks Noremac Re: Have i been scammed already 2Jun 21, 2010 7:50 pm Yes, I think if a builder designs your house/plans, that’s their plan now, and no, you can’t build that same house. This is standard, if the builders does the hard yards drawing the plan, its their design. BUT, you can make minor adjustments to the plan, move a few things and change a few things, bingo, it now becomes your plan again. But if you decide not to go with them, you can take the design to the new builder and start the process over.
