Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation Re: Safety of ducted central gas heating 3Jun 05, 2010 2:10 pm dymonite69 So assuming we regularly service our units, the risk of gas leak is minimised? DH is reluctant to get this installed after the recent news but we need heating of some sort! Re: Safety of ducted central gas heating 4Jun 05, 2010 2:15 pm It sounds like a bigger issue with unflued space heaters in the living areas than flued ducted systems in the roof space. It seems it depends if there is a system of discharging the exhaust gases and where. I once enquired about our Brivis ducted gas heater with a service agent and they suggested the likelihood of issues as non-existent. I would have thought it was an issue they would have gladly taken my money to scrape around my unit. The most vulnerable people are those who have a cheap portable unflued heater and can't afford to have it checked regularly. The story is sad. Re: Safety of ducted central gas heating 6Jun 07, 2010 9:38 am I'd guess you can get some sort of air quality alarm installed if you were really concerned about it. Re: Safety of ducted central gas heating 7Jun 09, 2010 10:08 pm Just received a quote for Brivis high efficiency gas ducted heating unit (HX35I) plus Brivis 3 phase cooling coil and condenser (model 38CDA21B9 / 28IDA21). This is for installation in the first floor roof space. I'm a bit nervous about having this stuff in the roof cavity but I am sure is normal practice? The guys who quoted me are specialists and come highly recommended. Anyone else have this or similar installed? We had gas ducted heating installed at our old place in 2001, and the unit was outside, as they always were, and the ducting run under the floor. When we moved into rented accommodation while building, we were mystified as to where the heating unit was...couldn't find it anywhere. We were surprised to discover it was in the roof space, then we learned that that's how it's done now, at least when you're on a slab. We had no problem there, nor have we in our new place, and the bulky unit isn't taking up valuable space outside. The only downside to it is the noise it makes when the gas ignites ....consider where you place it carefully. Above a bedroom probably isn't a great idea if the occupant is a light sleeper. You might not get much choice though, they're usually quite close to the manhole for easy access. Re: Safety of ducted central gas heating 9Jun 12, 2010 10:05 pm The large fan unit for our ducted RCAC exists in our roof space and you wouldn't know it is there. It sits on some kind of sprung mechanism. On the other hand, our old house had a ducted gas heater made a loud judder when switched on a produced a noticeable vibrating noise in the roof space when running. Re: Safety of ducted central gas heating 10Sep 17, 2010 8:58 pm If you're worried about it, get a carbon monoxide detector. Just like a smoke detector, but for gas in the home. It will go off if you have a leak. Recommended where I come from where ducted gas heating is the norm not the exception. http://cgi.ebay.com/FIRST-ALERT-EXPLOSI ... 23069a97b4 Re: Safety of ducted central gas heating 11Sep 17, 2010 8:59 pm Sorry, Australian link: http://www.kidde.com.au/utcfs/Templates ... 59,00.html Hi everyone.
