Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 01, 2010 4:32 pm Hi people my fiance and i i got some news off a friend that works at a soil testing company today that she had our soil test result, she has said that the block seems fine but will need 700-800mm fill which i have no problem, but i just wondering if anyone would know how much roughly that would cost us in sites costs because by the time my builder tells me god knows when that will be, im just worried if it blows out by like 15k or so it is our first house we are building together thanks any info will be great Re: Need 700-800mm fill on my land 2Jun 01, 2010 4:43 pm Where do you live? I've got some more foundations that need digging in the next month or two I can send a few trucks over there Re: Need 700-800mm fill on my land 3Jun 01, 2010 4:45 pm Hi there, I had just under 1.5m of fall on my land. Please see the pics on my thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=34402&p=490404&sid=79f3d8cfe489c5b023efba66fca84d1e#p490404 It cost me $6,900 for the cut & fill. When the siteworks started it was quite obvious that a retaining wall and drainage would be required. So I will now also have a 13m retaining wall made from wood & stainless steel posts. That works out around another $7k. You may be less expensive looking at stumps if your builder lets you build that way. Or go split level. Otherwise the house can really stick high out the ground at one end and the cost for retaining walls may justify you going stumps/split level. You wont know for sure what the price will be until you have your builder complete a site assessment. They will be able to use your soil test and normally provide a credit back for that of around $200 - $250. Hope thats helped in some way! But will i have a say in what they can do or will my builder have the final say im building with National Builders Group cos i just want the site cost to be as little as possible and i know they will just pump the price up if they can Re: Need 700-800mm fill on my land 7Jun 01, 2010 6:32 pm SM Soil testing doing by geotechnical engineer. he should recommend the type of foundation in soil report. builder has to follow that. with NBG my friend had 300 fill and told her site cost 16k plus. you will get more than that i had 550 fill and 450 cut. PD charge me 12K including upgrade to class H, drain, retaining wall etc.... Re: Need 700-800mm fill on my land 8Jun 01, 2010 6:46 pm well like i said i have not recieved the report yet so i dont really know whats goin to happen until the builder gets the report and does the site costs. Was your friends land on a hill, slope? Did he/she have retaining walls etc or was it straight fill 16k? Re: Need 700-800mm fill on my land 10Jun 02, 2010 11:20 am That is definatly sounding stranger every time I read it, to raise the soil level by 70 - 80 cm before you lay a slab, your house would be sitting very high compared to street level. If you land has 70 - 80cm of fill on it (soil test would show this) then you will either be looking at piering or deepened edge beam on the slab. Mainly to get back to the natural soil level for stability of the slab. Can't say I've heard anyone adding that much fill to a fairly level block after the title. Some people don't have time to do the job right the first time, but seem to have plenty of time to fix their mistakes. Just contact any excavation company and they will gladly drop off fill without charge.
