Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 26, 2010 1:21 pm Just have a question re laying Vinyl timber planks, do you have to do anything to the concrete slab before laying, I believe you just glue Vinyl directly onto concrete slab? if this correct Any assistance appreciated. The hard ones should be mostly good to go down as is. The soft ones are a different story - as with laying any soft vinyl: You will need to make sure that the surface is nice and flat and smooth. Many floorlayers would likely give a floor a thin coating of ardit and a sand to flatten any bumps or holes. Imperfections tend to show through those planks. It's not a really expensive process (vinyl can be one of the cheapest materials that you can use on your floors, and some of it can look magic. The latest design of wood strips look amazingly real), it just helps to know how. Also, if they are straight vinyl (without the hard backing) strips and you are not arditing the floor before laying, make sure that any writing done on your slab by the tradies is sanded away or otherwise removed before laying. Over the years it can leach through and you may end up with circles, lines, numbers, etc on your otherwise lovely planks. Depending on the thickness of the vinyl it can happen in a matter of months. Hope this helps!! They are pretty pricey already I had a quote of $120pm laid, but they didnt mention any work to the slab beforehand, guess I will have to check out how much this would be. Worth asking them about it. 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 3667 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 11528 Hi there, I'm a conplete newbie to this, but I'm looking to put a floor down in my 6x9m shed.
