Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 May 07, 2010 4:10 pm I have Googled in vain to find any reference to the trusty Braemar wood fired water heater such as we used to have on the back verandah of our "groupie" in Margaret River. Now living in Victoria, on acres, surrounded by firewood it seems the logical way to go. BUT: can't find anything like it. The model we had was probably from the '60s. It had a bricklined firebox at the bottom with a lagged tank above that had a 6" (?) chimney up the middle that connected with the standard stove piping of the day to the roof chimney. A "shepherd's crook" on the roof acted as expansion/overflow, blowing thunderous quantities of pressurised hot water onto the roof if we overheated it! I want one now! Any ideas? It's so lowtech, simple and effective that I guess there's probably a law against it..... Re: Anyone remember Braemar wood fired hot water? 2May 07, 2010 10:53 pm Go to Pivot wood heaters. Not sure about Braemar but they stock a few brands of boilers. People make one happy, not houses? I do not think so. Houses are more to be trusted than people. But we put a woodfire in (nectre) and I asked the guy for a hot water jacket, which is available for most of the ovens. He said that our plumbing is not suitable for this, because you need an an unpressured plumbing or something the like. You may have this type of plumbing if you have no town water I think. The best way to go is to get a quote or two and discuss this. Ask if you can combine the system with a solar hot water, it may not be possible (if you want this in future). Re: Anyone remember Braemar wood fired hot water? 6Oct 04, 2012 11:43 am I do and am lucky to have just aquired one from next door. Am wanting to intall it ouside to my backyard bathroom and was wondering if you know how I can do this? I love pruning and have accumulated loads of firewood over the years. Have lived with one before. Love them and the smell of the hot water coming out. I have also aquired an old cement bath tub. Nothing like a steaming hot tub in winter when it is raining. Re: Anyone remember Braemar wood fired hot water? 7Oct 05, 2012 9:06 am Best installed by a plumber ohmyone. I'd hate to see you do it yourself and for us to see a glow on the horizon as you blew yourself to kingdom come ! I also see these come up for sale regularly on ebay. Stewie Re: Anyone remember Braemar wood fired hot water? 8Apr 01, 2013 3:17 am Not only do I remember these beautiful units but I have one!! .Breamar stopped making them some time ago but I purchased a new unit from "ACORN INDUSTRIES' in OSBOURNE PARK WA in 1998. cost $870.00 at the time. When used on rainwater only these things have an exceptionally long life. Failing this using a stainless solar hot water tank and insulating it and fabricating a fire box and base works wonders. Dont forget to include the overpressure "sheppards crook" connected to the overflow/overpressure outlet. THIS IS EXTREMLY IMPORTANT for safety purposes Failing this every now and again one will pop up on ebay or gumtree but you need to be quick!! the sun master is the solar heating to "warm" the water in the tank the S26 is your hot water system which will heat the water (25 degrees?) so with both turned on you… 2 12479 I want to build a decking to the drawn shape outlined in black.
