I have spent all day today second guessing all my exterior colours - it's completely doing my head in . mummamichelle It was getting to the point I felt like it wasn't really ever going to happen Yes, I can totally understand the feeling. I honestly thought our build would never get started. Once it does start though, the process becomes very surreal and very exciting!! I'm sure it will all be worth it in the end Re: Mumma's House~Doulton Q3~Variations worth the cost? help 8May 06, 2010 12:34 pm Not much has happened on site since scrape. Dh went around to finalize plans with retaining wall contractor on Tuesday and said they came and laid gravel where the driveway will be. Woohoo, gravel, haha...that's all! The retaining will start on Monday and may take up to two weeks before we can be slabbed. The fact that I totally overlooked having drawers in my bathrooms is doing my head in. We asked for quotes on adding a set of drawers to ensuite and bathroom vanity and was told $500 admin fee + actual cost of the variation. I don't know if a set of drawers is worth the fuss and the money?? Anyone have an opinion either way? I supppose you need to consider what you are placing in the vanities. For example in our main ensuite we have two sets of double door cabinets (one side each for DH and myself) then three drawers in the centre. In the top drawer we keep all the kidlets hair things (sprays / combs / brushes) as well as tissue box. The second drawer is my hairdryer / straightener and my brush / combs. Then bottom drawer is my makeup drawer. The cupboards are filled with larger spray tins (like hairsprays etc) and other toiletries like soap / moisturisers etc. I think that smaller items are better in drawers. The other option would be to have smaller drawer organisers sitting inside your cupboards. Re: Mumma's House~Doulton Q3~Variation worth the cost, help? 10May 06, 2010 1:03 pm HI & Congrats on the Start We started the other week and it feels slower now because i drive past every day to have a look whats new.. Its funny how something as small as gravel or a water meter can get you excited Your plans look great .. hope you guys enjoy the build My build thread:https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=24870 Re: Mumma's House~Doulton Q3~Variation worth the cost, help? 11May 06, 2010 8:56 pm I would be looking at other options you could do yourself after handover, Howards Storage World has tons of options for stacking, separating, pull out drawers etc. Just add it to your list of things that you would do differently "if you build again" (mine continues to grow)!! And try to stop thinking about it - your house will still be awesome! Re: Mumma's House~Doulton Q3~Variation worth the cost, help? 12May 07, 2010 2:19 pm Thanks Shelby & Kyton for your opinions. I have decided to just leave it and like you said Shelby add it to the list of things I will do next time along with built in shelving to the wardrobes, although that is something we can still do after handover I spose. I definately would use the drawers, for all the kiddies hair things, my makeup and hair things usually go in drawers, ect. With the added space of a double vanity I am sure I can find an alternative! Benny-I live very close to where I am building so I know I am going to go through the same thing, doing the daily drive by. I don't think anything could be as slow as the pre-build stage though!! Good idea to source a solution yourself- why pay a variation fee for something so simple? We are sticking with cupboards and then I also add storage inside them Deemaree Kyndylan Capers: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=46852 My blog: http://www.sufficientlysufficient.blogspot.com/ Re: Mumma's House~Doulton Q3~Variation worth the cost, help? 14May 07, 2010 4:39 pm Not to worry Michelle. I hope everything steams along for you and we're looking at a nice fat SLAB soon (oh I say pay for the drawer upgrade if it's something you will regret in the future, but also consider that it should be pretty straightforward, and cheaper, to get pull-out drawers installed in a shelf-less cupboard I'm a it fussy about my aethetics, so I'd pay the variation and then forget about it) Re: Mumma's House~Doulton Q3~Variation worth the cost, help? 16May 12, 2010 3:11 pm Hi MM Just wondering how your build is going. We are just signing off on a Doulton Q2 with plantation and building on the Sunshine Coast. How have you found them and are you getting your fascade, driveways, flooring, air con etc done through them also? Do you have any advice for someone just starting the process? Cheers Jacks Re: Mumma's House~Doulton Q3~Variation worth the cost, help? 17May 12, 2010 7:36 pm Durnania Hi MM Just wondering how your build is going. We are just signing off on a Doulton Q2 with plantation and building on the Sunshine Coast. How have you found them and are you getting your fascade, driveways, flooring, air con etc done through them also? Do you have any advice for someone just starting the process? Cheers Jacks Well the build hasn't actually started yet, you can see my time line an earlier post, but hoping to get the retaining done by next week (it's a huge job) and then we'll finally get everything going. So far have found PH pleasant enough, the pre-build took forever, they took weeks to take care of PCVs and then weeks to draw up final plans and then weeks again to change and draw up new final plans...so that part could have been better. Now that we've moved to production they have been great with communication, even though nothing has happened we still got a fortnightly update and our SS contacted straight away. We decided to do EVERYTHING we could do independent of PH. Everything you have listed. We went with the basic facade Miller. We had them quote us for the retaining walls but decided to delete that as well as they will highly marked up from an independent contractor. We haven't gone with a lot of crazy upgrades as we have a pretty strict budget but hopefully everything will come together nicely. Check out my building blog if you want to follow our build! Will be looking forward to following yours if you start a thread here on H1 MM Building Doulton Q3 with Plantation Homes My Building Blog http://thewebbs-page.blogspot.com/ Building Thread https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32743 Re: Mumma's House~Doulton Q3~Variation worth the cost, help? 18May 12, 2010 7:40 pm Thanks Northbound for your comment on my colour choices, it does help to make me feel better to have someone elses positive feedback. I do like all my choices, I am just regretting choosing so many different colors...if it wasn't going to cost an arm and a leg to make changes to my colour selection I'd go with one tile color and one cabinet color. Our site was cut 27/4, it didn't take long to find and get the retaining wall contractor on site where he started doing his thing to find that the cut was OFF. It was supposedly checked before the block was handed back to us. So...we had to wait for SS to have a look, and his answer yes it was off but not like he just organized for it to be rectified...a few days worth of phone calls between dh and contractor to get in touch with SS. It was suggested we can leave it the way it is,pushed all the way up to the front boundry and dh agreed. Now waiting for the plan to be redrafted AGAIN before the contractor can go ahead with the retaining. But lucky us they let us know that this change would not cause us any addition fee, hello...it is your stuff up of course we shouldn't have to pay!! This is so frusterating!
