Re: what size washing machine do you have and is it big enou 27Apr 26, 2010 11:43 am Hels, you just teach them how to use the washing machine and then it's their problem. You are not their slave. Only trouble is, every time I go to use the machine, my eldest has it running. Or he's filled the clothesline because he can't seem to work out that you can fit more than two items of clothing per line.... So I have to re-peg all his washing before I can fit mine on. Wish he'd move out.... Re: what size washing machine do you have and is it big enou 28Apr 27, 2010 9:14 am We have a 9.5kg Simpson. It does a good job and so far haven't had to have it repaired but I can't say I'd buy another. Once this one packs up I will be heading over to eBay to get a big old Hoover, as noisy as they are, I can't fault them. Re: what size washing machine do you have and is it big enou 29Apr 27, 2010 10:25 am Hels We have an LG 7kg front loader and I would NEVER go back to a top loader again. The front loader washes better and uses less water and powder. We bought it in 2002 (pre-kids) and it's still going strong despite never being serviced in that time We have 4 of us now so when the LG gives up the ghost we will get another front loader of at least 8kgs. I am thinking Bosch next time because we are very impressed with our Bosch dishwasher which is whisper quiet. Hels we have exactly the same washing machine and have had it nearly as long as you. I love it too and though we are now a family of 4 I dont wish it were any bigger. Like you I would probably go up to an 8kg if we were needing a new one anytime soon. Re: what size washing machine do you have and is it big enou 30Apr 27, 2010 11:14 am mummagoose My personal opinion - I wouldn't spend the extra money on getting a Miele. I have a Miele dishwasher, and I don't think it's any different or better than some other cheaper dishwashers I've had. Then again, there are people that love their Miele products......... We have had an Asko W640 (rated at 5.5 kg capacity) for close to 10 years. Many moons ago we were given a front loading washing machine as the owner had been told it was not worth repairing. It served us well for 6 years, only needing to replace a front sealing washer periodically. On returning to Australia, we made the mistake of buying a top-loader. Never again! That's why we paid the extra for an Asko, even though it stretched us financially at the time, and we are glad we did put the extra money into that purchase. The Asko has served us very well, even though we are now three adults, one teenager and one soon to be teenager. If we were buying again, and we don't expect to have to any time soon, we would again buy Asko or Miele. Don't get too carried away by the manufacturer's claimed capacity - Choice has revealed that some manufacturers are a trifle optimistic in their claims. Go for the Miele, it is a worth putting extra money in now to ensure you get a machine that you'll be happy with for 15 or more years. Pfiff Finally making progress again, with a clothesline (yippee) and some much needed little things being attended to over the holidays. 40 C on New Year's eve? We love our a/c! Re: what size washing machine do you have and is it big enou 31Apr 27, 2010 1:13 pm ^^ I had an Asko dishwasher ... I would buy one of those again, much better than the Miele one I have now. Re: what size washing machine do you have and is it big enou 32Apr 27, 2010 1:40 pm Having used lots of different brands/styles, I would recommend a front loader over a top loader (looks nicer in a laundry as you can run a bench from one wall to another) as they wash sooooo much better AND use less water. As for brands, I would say that Kleenmaid are very reliable in an industrial sort of way (I hope that makes sense), F&P are not so much. I currently have a Ariston (3 years old) and love it, but reserve judgement as lets face it, these days if something lasts 5 years I think it is a good wicket. Confused Renovator Re: what size washing machine do you have and is it big enou 33Apr 27, 2010 9:38 pm We have decided on the miele 6.5kg. l was going to go for the bosch 8.0kg for the same price thinking that it was made it germany. Unfortunately it is made in Thailand. Nothing wrong with products made in asian countries. hehehee l'm asian myself but l find that products that are made in germany are heaps better. Therefore after all this we decided to put a deposit on the miele. They have a sale on now. $200 off the model that l want so l decided to snap it up because they rarely have sales. Our house is still getting built and only up to the bricks stage so l'll have to wait till October to test it out Handover date 3rd August 2010 WOOHOO!!! Re: what size washing machine do you have and is it big enou 34Apr 28, 2010 2:06 pm This is probably no help to you now but I would honestly go for a bigger model if you are having babies soon. We've had a 5.5kg Hoover since before we were engaged. For two of us it was fantastic, with one baby I was washing 1-2 loads every day (he was a vomiter), with 2 babies I was washing 2-3 loads every day. At that time I definitely could have used an 8 - 8.5kg machine. Now with 4 kids I've been washing 3-4 loads every day. Summer is obviously less than winter as their clothes are so small. I've been praying for years for the darn washer to die but has never had a problem, never even needed a service. It has finally started putting grease marks on our clothes so we just yesterday bought a 10kg LG washer dryer combo. If it performs well I am going to buy a second one for our new house. On my 3rd load now.. Re: what size washing machine do you have and is it big enou 35Apr 28, 2010 2:16 pm I bought a Miele front loader this time, not sure of the size but can let you know later, and it has a lot of settings for different types of garments, reducing wash times, spin speeds and water temp, I'm very happy with it. There are 3 adults in the family I can fit 2 king sheets in it plus pillow cases and am finding stuff is coming out cleaner and dryer than my top loader used to do....so yep it's good Re: what size washing machine do you have and is it big enou 36Apr 28, 2010 7:36 pm hey Suh l think Miele only do 6.5kg front load washers. If you could please check for me. Thanks Handover date 3rd August 2010 WOOHOO!!! Re: what size washing machine do you have and is it big enou 37Apr 28, 2010 8:10 pm Would you believe it doesn't say anywhere on the machine ....it's a Miele Novotronic W1611, you can programme it to add extra water if needed and on certain settings you can shorten the wash cycle, it has a 30 min express cycle which is good for stuff that's not very dirty. I'm really happy with it. Re: what size washing machine do you have and is it big enou 38Apr 29, 2010 10:06 pm Thats the exact model that we put a deposit on. yep its 6.5kgs. Wow so it has an express wash (30min) the sale rep couldnt tell me how long the shortest wash takes. l was scared that it was going to take a long time because it is a front loader. Have you had any probs with the machine at all? Is the machine loud when it is running? Handover date 3rd August 2010 WOOHOO!!! Re: what size washing machine do you have and is it big enou 39May 02, 2010 11:58 am Oops, sorry yes 30min express and you can shorten other wash cycles as well. It has it's normal level of noise, nothing out of the ordinary. No problems at all...oh wait there is one, the husband feels it's a little hard to learn to use he's just using it as an excuse the manual is very easy to follow, if I can...you can also, a box of washing powder will last you forever, you only use 1/2 to 3/4 of a scoop, depending on the load. Re: what size washing machine do you have and is it big enou 40May 02, 2010 1:15 pm SPEED QUEEN ALL THE WAY!!! These are commercial quality, heavy duty washers disgned to LAST. No 'beep beep' electronic gismos with circuit boards to break down! We recently replaced our old 16 year old Kleenmaid (same machine really-made by Speed Queen of USA) with a new Speed Queen top loader. The old one was about 8kg and the new one has an extra large capacity of about 9kg. I prefer top loaders because you can add extra clothes or whatever after the cycle has begun. Yes, they do use more water than front loaders, but understanding cleaning principles, this means better washing and flushing than machines that use less water. Larger capacity is definitely good to have whether or not it is needed! Our old Kleenmaid unit was used almost daily for many years. I replaced the pump myself about 18 months ago when it developed a leak, and cost about $150. When it started to leak earlier this year from the bottom of the tub, (main seal) I decided after all the service it has given, time to buy a new one. Never thought twice about buying the same type again. They last many years in laundromats. Cost about $1,730 delivered from memory = excellent value for money! Ash.
