Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Apr 17, 2010 11:39 pm I am hoping to pick your brains, or anyone else who is interested ... on what they think of Holland blinds for our very special window with a view. Basically during the day I would like have no window dressings at all, but at night would like privacy. I am looking at Holland blinds, but as the window has 5 panels and due to the widths, I have to get 5 individual panels, with the middle one being linked. (I didn't want any chains or cords showing, so this was the best solution) .. or motorised .. but that was getting out of our budget. The only chains/controls will be attached to the walls on the far left and right hand side ... I am ok with that. I thought if i went a dark colour it would blend in with the frames during the day. Or do you think i should go a lighter colour? Our walls colours will be either Dulux Grey Pebble or Limed White (both full strength) and floors will be spotted gum. Are there any other alternatives that I am missing? We are going for a very modern, contemporary look. I am not really a fan of romans for this style of home. The window is mostly south facing, slight afternoon sun comes in on the right hand side looking out in the late afternoon. I will attach a photo of the main window, and the side windows it butts to. Thank you. That way you can mount them above the windows, cuts out none of the view and will disapear into the wall and not take your eyes off the view when you walk into the room. We have a view and that's what I've done. Re: Would holland blinds be best for this window with a view 3Apr 18, 2010 9:49 am I think the most important thing to think of here is, how many drops do you want at the big window? And how weighty will those drops be? I like MBBN’s thought, personally I would be looking at a remote window dressing of roller blinds. These will disappear into a top mount and you won’t be manually pulling about 4 to 6 blinds up and down each day. It's like a painting! Re: Would holland blinds be best for this window with a view 5Apr 18, 2010 12:19 pm We have a similar situation, and went with sunscreen roller blinds that blend with the colour of our walls. No pelmets, so the look is minimalist. I can still enjoy the view, but get privacy, and block out the sun/keep the warmth in. Will post a pic later, if you like. Gorgeous view, by the way!! Re: Would holland blinds be best for this window with a view 6Apr 18, 2010 10:17 pm Thanks so much for the replies and suggestions. I am not really sold on the romans, it's not the look I am going for in this house, however would love to see how yours looks MBBN, as nothing is set in concrete yet. The motorised blinds are a great idea, but they are around $300 per blind (x5), plus electricians costs. May look in to this option further, just seems expensive... or is that just me If Í went with plain hollands they will only have two cords, one on each end of the wall, and one will pull up 3 blinds as they will be linked, and the other cords pulls up 2 blinds ... hope this makes sense. This was what was explained to me, and I liked that idea. I am also leaning towards a darker blind, like charcoal or gun metal as I think it will blend in with the window frames when not in use, and in the evening give the room a nice feel when down. It's a large enough room to carry a dark blind ... well that's what I am thinking now .. maybe tomorrow something different again Vunderful, thank you for the tip on the paint ... you actually have just swayed me back to the Grey Pebble .. which was my original choice ... appreciate that. However I may change to 50% tint instead of full. Caroline J I would love to see your photos Thanks again guys ... really do appreciate you suggestions. Hi im new to this forum. What a terrific site!
